Digital camera wanted

Ok, I'm doing it. Finally getting a digi-cam, if I can find one (with you guys' help of course)

Not really sure what I want, 'cept these basic specs:
- smart media compatible
- in the realm of $200-250

I'm looking right now of course...hoping maybe someone has a link they saw recently of a good deal and/or some input on digi-cams.

Thanks!

*edit
Well, I looked...couldn't even find one for that price range...guess I can extend it to the $300 range.

BTW, I'll be using it for Ebay pics, and other personal, non-professional uses....posting pics of my car for example, so nothing fancy, zoom would be good.

Well, I personally like the Olympus D490Z. At eBay, they are going for just around $300.Actually, a D460Z might be better for you. The price is lower at eBay, and elsewhere. They have optical and digital zoom, and are smart media enabled. Try looking for a good price here.

Good luck

Question Time;

Any particular reason for wanting SmartMedia, already got some ?

And, pictures destined for posting on the Web need to be low in resolution or you'll have to shrink them manually, so no reason to get a Multi-Megapixel camera if this is the intended usage.

If you're wanting to print Glossy Photos AND post on the Web then you do need a bit more resolution.

I've had a ton of different digital cameras, most all do very good glossy photos, just some smaller end results than others.

Here's a $100 solution, the major complaint on the reviews was the flash was too bright, needs a diffuser(paper)to keep from burning out subjects, otherwise pretty decent. It takes Compact Flash(NewEgg for cheap) Serial Port though, $25 reader needed.

Add 5 Cents to this camera and get in for about $165~ HP Photosmart 318
High resolution(2.3mp)but no optical zoom.

Kodak 3600 2.2mp w/2x Optical & 3x Digital Zoom rated in the top 5 cameras less than $400 in some artical I read.
I've sold several of the 3500 which are the same except the 3600 adds Optical Zoom
$250~

Kodak DX3900 3.1mp 2X Optical 3X Digital Zoom
$345~
I have had one of these since December. The 3mp is a waste to me, I only use the 2.2mp setting for crisp pictures.

When ya decide closer as to what you "need" in a camera perhaps we can narrow down the very wide field.

4.2 MPixel camera + access, $300 *MIR*

Toshiba PDR-M81 Camera at Gateway accessory store for $449.95 with shipping free.

Use code BA686 for $50 off $199.

Toshiba direct $100 + accessories back.
The free accessories you are sent are: 32 MB Smartmedia Card, Case Logic Smartmedia Case, 4-pk e2 Energizer Lithium Batteries, Case Logic Camera Bag and FREE Lost & Found Protection Plan.

Bottom line:

In other words, I want expandable memory sticks. Not fixed 8mb or some crapola like that

Thanks for the links! I will check them out.

90% of the time, I will be using the camera for Ebay and sending pics by email/posting them online....so print quality isn't a big deal...although I'd like them not to look like crap if I choose to do that.

Thanks!

OK, get IW's Circuit City deal for $59.00 even though it's overkill for E-Bay pics..
