Hot! - Dell SC440 Dual-Core Server $219 Shipped

Expires: 2/13/08 11:00 PM

Dell Small Business has the PowerEdge SC440 Server on sale for $199 as part of a special three-day promotion, which is a $449 instant discount. Add $19.99 for shipping. Tax is charged in select states. Click the deal link, then customize the $199 PowerEdge SC440 configuration. You can upgrade to 1GB of memory for only $29 more.

Specifications include the Intel Pentium E2160 dual-core processor, 512MB DDR2 memory, 80GB Serial ATA hard drive, CD-ROM drive, Gigabit LAN, and one-year basic support. As with most entry-level server configurations, there is no included operating system, but several popular Linux and BSD distributions should work nicely.

Get this deal!

They're crazy calling that a $449 discount. I give it a value of a $50 discount given that incredibly low-end hardware. But if you need a really cheap hardware core that isn't going to do much of anything, it would work well enough in a pinch. But for $50 more, one can build their own with 2GB RAM and a DVD+/-RW for cheap short-term optical backups.

Given the usual Dell SB promotional pricing strategy, it is around a $100 actual discount IMO, as the SC440 is oftentimes on sale. The big positive for the SC440, especially for business-class customers, is the on-site hardware warranty service, which is rare for a $200 branded OEM server.
