Warm! - Presidian PDR-0163 DVD Recorder $10

Expires: 12/24/07 11:00 PM

Radio Shack is offering the Presidian PDR-0163 DVD Recorder for an incredibly low $9.97 with no rebates required. Supports DVD-R/RW media. Progressive-scan output. Click the deal link, then search for local stock. Stock in high traffic areas will probably sell out fast.

Get this deal!

Radio Shack DVD recorder "deal"

All I can say is call first, because if your local stores are not "Corporate Radio Shack" owned, you cannot get this deal. I waited outside when it opened here in Alaska, and they would not honor the price. It is on sale...for $79.99. Merry Christmas from radio shack!

What Presidian DVD Recorder?

From the Radio Shack site I clicked Find one near you. That gave me the name of a franchised shop in a town 20 miles away. Called their number to find, quote: we discontinued those out a year ago. End quote. Radio Shack did make clear they had no supply for purchase online, but told me the franchised shop had one/some in stock.

While responding to these ResellerRatings Store heads up alerts, I've found, if only occasionally, some confusion concerning supply, prices and availability.
According to the man I did speak to, the Presidian DVD Recorder has not been around for at least a year. When I did mention the web-sites stating he did have it in inventory- like I expected him to find one in the back room- he replied with: we had an ex-employee who, among other things to include theft, messed up their entire inventory system.

I firmly believe that this ResellerRatings offer of the day was not at all researched as to whether it actually existed Or Not. In fact, I feel it's quite possible the presenter of today's ResellerRatings Hot Deals picked up an old listing from 12 months ago. That would neatly fit with the info I've gathered while trying to find this very Hot Deal. And I was told that the regular price, last year, was some $77.xx, re-inforcing the fact that this COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY HOT DEAL! I was ready to buy a half dozen- or more! And I already own a real sharp Lite-On DVD Recorder/Player that put me back well over $9.97- by about 20 some times.

I must insist that each and every one of your Hot Deals be researched at least to verify the existance of said Deals.

Wow! Why did I write all this??

The deal does exist, and ResellerRatings was not the only site to list this promotion. In fact, a local corporate store in my area still even lists stock. Naturally, deals are typically a YMMV situation regardless of the vendor, but especially when it comes to a vendor like Radio Shack, it is a huge YMMV situation for non-corporate franchise stores.

During college I used to work for Tandy Corp. in its Radio Shack retail sales division. There are lots of these type of old inventory deals (for pennies on the retail dollar) floating around the stores, but somewhat surprisingly as compared to other retailers, the Radio Shack sales floor employees usually seem rather clueless about old inventory collecting dust in storage rooms.
