Hi I also purchased a Compaq V5305WM at Walmart incredible value @ $398. However on the 2nd day I had pop up screen ( nosysworks ) full title: C:ProgramFiles\commandfiles\symantecshared\nmaime. exe
nosyworks/dat:c\programefiles\nortoninternetsecurity\NISPLUG .NSI\goto:No$NOR
After 5 calls ( 4 hrs holding getting cut off to India call centre ) although staff very polite seemed limited on knowledge. They said that a lot of calls had been received on this machine bought from Walmart! One rep asked me to purchase additional 512 memory! One used remote diagnostics on machine, in safe mode and deleted lots of stuff!! into recycle bin, after that I could not get on web ( DSL) Another rep asked me to delete Norton in ADD / Delete Programmes. This would not delete. Then I was asked to do a system restore point. I chose date of purchase 11/5/06 and message unsuccessful restore. Then I was told I would have to buy!! Norton again or pay one of their expert technicians $59 to fix problem. Machine 5 days old.
Next call I was told to restore back to factory settings as all info was on Presario_RP (D

drive. Laptop was displayed as 60GB but 12GB is reserved for system restore. 44GB showing on Local Disk with free space as only 29.7GB. All in all I have less than 30GB to use on a 60GB machine and with that calculation the laptop is only a 56GB machine.
1st day I had to use 19 CD-R discs to back up system recovery discs. Help desk said to do this so as to release partition of 12GB. The machine is not supplied with back up discs or software discs.
However if you delete the (RP) recovery partion to free space, then you cannot use recovery from the hard drive. You also cannot use Application and Driver Recovery is not available on the set of recovery discs made. Help desk does not inform you of this critical information.
I was so frustrated that I researched myself and downloaded an uninstall tool from Norton site. Whoopee so far so good no more messages Nosyworks.!!!
I received a call today from HP office manager to apologise and all she could tell me was to use the HP System Application Recovery to reinstall Norton if my problem was not solved. All in All apart from the frustration the HP staff were polite although somewhat inadequte on Tech info.
The Nosyworks seems to be an old problem 2004/5 as per info on web. Can anyone offer any other hep to fix this if it happens again, or best not to use Norton?
Sorry about the long winded post but has anyone else experienced this isseue? I still believe this was a good buy.
