Who's a Liberal?

Who's a Liberal?

Now, I don't believe Fortune magazine is a left-wing publication.

And I love this part --
Quote:
And if one had any doubts that budget politics have gone through the looking glass, just guess which former GOP punching bag would get the largest funding increase in 20 years under the Bush budget: the National Endowment for the Arts.
That must drive real conservatives nuts!

Well, I'll take your question at face value, Pexster, hmmm, lemme see...

I favor Second amendment rights and strong State's Rights, so I must be a Conservative. Although I'm a rabid supporter of the NEA, so that gives the jitters to THAT supposition...

But....You say, GWB's new budget gives the NEA a big boost?

YAAAAAY, GWB!!!

Wait a minute...he must be a Liberal! Any President who would give grants to naked performance artists (the common stereotype for the NEA) must be a liberal! (Not to mention the multi-trillion $$$ deficit he's sliding under our noses....what a typically liberal "spend-and-release" ploy! )

NAAAHH, he's a REPUBLICAN... lookit how he's larding out tax breaks to his rich buddies. Since I don't HAVE any rich buddies, I must be a DEMOCRAT...

Nope, I hate them too...

Actually, I dislike 'em all...same crooks, liars and thieves, different mascots. I must be an ANARCHIST...

Except I don't approve of bombs (not to mention raggedy beards, either) so...?

Is a Libertarian a Liberal or Conservative?

20 Years ago I was a conservative.
I believed:
- in a balanced budget
- in the people's individual rights
- in personal liberties
- that the U.S. can't be the policeman of the world
- reducing government spending

Today I'm a liberal.

Knothead asked "Is a Libertarian a Liberal or Conservative?" I've always maintained that they reside on that part of the political circle where the left meets the right WAYYY in back. But you can't be one of them because of the NEA thing.

No, Knot, we need to think up a brand new category for you. Perhaps humanitarian?

You're much too kind...

I like it when people try to think up new categories for me. It makes me feel so special! Plus, it drives them crazy!

Seriously, though, I was going to end the above post by concluding that I'm just another confused American, who nevertheless, is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT in his opinions!

just like everybody else...

That can't be right. Vegetarians eat vegetables. So, humanitarians eat...

And what about "Be kind to plants. Don't eat them." After all, plants have feelings, too!

I'll have my ribe-eye medium rare, please.

MTA perhaps I read you politics wrong.

20 Years ago I was a conservative.
I believed:
- in a balanced budget
- in the people's individual rights
- in personal liberties
- that the U.S. can't be the policeman of the world
- reducing government spending

Today I'm a liberal.
I believe:
- in a balanced budget (but ever increasing government entitlements)
- in the people's individual rights (While restricting right to bear arms)
- in personal liberties (While restricting peoples freedom of speech through laws like hate crimes legislation)
- that the U.S. can't be the policeman of the world (except when a democrat does it on a smaller ineffective scale with the same lies)
- reducing government spending (With ever increasing Government entitlements (ummmm how???))

oops I think I need to explain my thoughts on hate crimes legislation. If you punch someone in the mouth you should be punished for punching them. Not for the freedom of speech where you called them a "thus and such or a humagigger"

if you hit someone, kill someone, light their church on fire, you should be punished for the crime not your personal views. You may take those personal views into account when deciding if their actions were justified but not when defining punishment.

Now I am not proud of Bush's NEA support, nor his championing of giant entitlement increases, loose immigration. I do not think any conservatives are championing those.

Knothead,

could someone explain how the NEA is good for the country? Supporting one fecal matter covered cross or a picture of a toilet with a little globe in it, is supported on occasion. Could you explain how the NEA is used in more reasonable terms?

I look at it as supporting artists who can not support themselves. That does not seem to make sense. Art has been around and evolving for eons with out a government entitlement. Could you explain why even one dollar of my tax money should be spent to support an artist who can not sell their goods to the public?

Or am I missing something?

I am serious I just do not understand the whole concept. PM me if you feel the answer will drift too far off subject or will be too heated.
