RANT: Car alarms

[RANT] Is there any device known to man that more clearly says "Owner is an idiot" than cheap car alarms? There's a ricer sitting outside my office window with a too-sensitive alarm that goes off EVERY time another vehicle passes by. It's been almost constant for hours now. What kind of inconsiderate, low-life moron would leave such a sensitive alarm active like that? Doesn't it drive his/her neighbors crazy? Doesn't he/she realize NO ONE cares if the car gets stolen? I for one am praying it gets stolen. [/RANT]

Whew! That's better.

Ya I think car alarms in general are fairly usesless unless the OWNER is ALWAYS within earshot of the alarm.

Otherwise people just ignore them. We've become so used to hearing them go off for no reason that we're desensitized to them...

I would like to think so, but things don't work that way on a university. More likely the cops will tow my car as revenge for disturbing their snooze.

Here is a tool I recommend for disabling car alarms.

Very effective.

Tony has a sentitive car alarm like that, We have dual alarms systems on the rig, Normally we use the screeching one if we are parked in an area that it will not get set off accidently. However if we are parked in an area such as parallel parking off a street where cars are whizing by all the time, we use our other one which is not so sentitive nor as loud.

Its better to have dual alarms systems that can be used in situations that need less security but some security and other places where it needs higher security.

Not even I have my car alarm that sensitive. It will beep though if a car with a fart pipe passes by, but it wont go off.

And if it does you can hear it from a bit of a distance since it has a house alarm siren
