Anybody needs workout advice/tips???
I've been getting asked a lot of workout related questions by my "New Year's Resolution" buddies here, so I figured that maybe some of you might need some advice/tips. Maybe you're not seeing results as quickly as you might like...not sure what foods to eat...what exercises to do/how do to them...how to get those darn abs to show!
So, feel free to post up...there are quite a few of us "muscleheads" here that would be more than happy to lend a hand.
Hopefully you haven't given up by now...when I was working out at the gym, there would be a HUGE increase of people just after New Year's...by Feb it was back to the regulars.
Mike
EDIT: Here's a nice little eating guide for you! NO MORE DIETS!!!

Well, i am on the way out the door right now to the gym...Ill just add that working out is great for one's mood etc.....I am 36 and I feel great...better than I did probably from say 22 to 30ish.
When I slack off with the workouts for a few weeks or months, I really feel the diffrence...not right away cuz it creeps in on you..but after while you just feel lethargic and depressed etc.
I feel great now and am for once looking forward to the shirltess season.....think of it..if you can be 36 and looking forward to summer like that.....it's great!
(I have regained a lot of the muscle I lost as I lost almost 50 lbs trying to trim off some fat...I am almost ready to post some pics but I wont do it in this thread..cuz I dont wanna show Marty up!!!! lol)

Hehe...that's my weakest point, GZ!
I hate to point to a link, but this link will tell you everything I can...plus it saves me some typing time as I'm in the middle of my workout right now. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calvwork.htm |

I would say that is more about speed and technique than raw brute strength..BUT....I would also add that in a sport like that..with all that dynamic motion....I would work double on all my 'core" stuff....the "core" of your body.....all the ab type muscles and also lower back etc....because that center portion is where a lot of the torque and balance come from.

I'll be the "new guy" in England, looking forward to taking my shirt off there for the first time.
Good for you, JP...most of the 30+ yr olds I work with are, well, "mushy". |

Are you kidding Martoch? You should see some of the "regulars" at the gym, here in the valley!
My dad and a group of other guys (all well over 30) go to the gym almost every day, and some of them run marathons.
The coolest guy I know is a 78 year old guy that you would assume to physically be 21. He's a machine! On the other hand we have a big guy named Kevin that is a monster. He's well over 30, and he is a true weight lifter - Every machine he uses, he has to add extra weight to make it a challenge. He's a rather scary guy.
I've been meaning to get back in the gym and start doing some running, but I would much rather enjoy my french fries that I am eating right now. (Although I am riding my bike the whole 10K round trip to school). |

I hope he doesn't slam on the breaks too hard, he'll have you hanging out his booty...
OMG he has to add extra weights?! I'm in love... |

I've been slackin' the last couple months. just being lazy.
I'll get back into it tough, soon. On a daily basis, I'm only doing 40 pushups (20 each time lol), 100 situps, and my hand grips and leg bands and iso's while working in my comp chair, and walk/jog (yes, JOG! lol i hate jogging on a treadmill but it's ok outside) to the post office every day (2 miles) but that's been about it. ;p
Re calf muscles:
Not sure what the machine is called, but the one I use most is the one where you sit and the pad rests on top of your knees and you raise the weight by the balls of your feet. Builds my calfs pretty quickly. | |
