Morals questions

Ok you are walking around a store and you pick up a few items. But after looking around for a while you decide to leave. Now you get out to the car and you find that you have something in your hand which keeps you from getting to your keys.

OOps you still have a 10 dollar item that you forgot to put down.

Do you return it?

Do you keep it?

Do you leave it in a shopping cart outside?

Question2

You are in a mall parking lot and you spy a shopping cart next to your car with a medium priced item in it say 20 to 30 bucks.

Do you take it after looking around the parking lot for the owner for a minute or two?

Do you leave it and hope the owner comes back?

Do you return it to the store of origin?

Do you bring it to security.

I've had both happen to me within the last year...on both occasions I returned the items to the store. I try my best not to live life with a guilty conscience.

And you, Epi?

1) Easy..take it back.

2) Leave it alone...could be a setup, lol...or a bomb.

1) True

2) False

Did I pass?!?

No, honestly, I've almost driven off without paying for gas once and I felt horrible. It was a good thing I caught myself too. As for the package, I would never keep it, but my mood would dictate what I would do with it.

1). I would return the item, but would be a bit cautious about it. Why? Because teenagers returning something to a store? The store manager would immediately think: Teenager that got a guilty conscience!

2) I'd return the item to the store..

1) take it back and I did.

2) probably take it. (with the assumption that the next person will take it) Probably bad but.... My wife found a bag of shucked pistachios and she took them (probably 5 bucks)

logic one return it to the store and they will simply re-sell it.

Logic two leave it there and owner will never get a chance to find it as the next person in that spot will get it. (guess it is better to let the next guy do wrong but I lean toward my own selfish interests) I am torn and can not answer that one solid. the lower the dollar value the more likely I would be to take it. I am going to give the guy who forgot his color TV the chance to come and retreive it but the guy who leaves a pack of gum I would keep.

Ah, I was hoping you would add more details to the thread. I was just thinking about whether or not the value mattered.

BTW - How could a guy forget his color TV?

I have stated in this forum before the theft of a pack of gum is no different than the theft of a mercedes. The bottom line is a thief is a thief no matter the value.
You can't be a little bit pregnant nor can you be only a little bit of a thief.

Ok a palm pilot.

If it had a receipt with a name I would try to hunt him down without receipt I probably would leave it in the cart under a piece of paper to keep people from noticing it except for the owner who would leave no stone unturned

1. Go pay for it. Alot of times it is the cashier who is responsible for their till. I would hate for them to loose pay (or job), because of the insodent. On the same token, I would report it to management, so the issue of bad cashiering would not continue to go un-noticed.

2. Completely depends on the item, and circumstances. Just a couple of weeks ago I was in Walmart parking lot and saw a set of clear plastic floor mats in a cart. No packaging, no one around. They were like new, with a very small bit of dirt on one of them, the others were spotless. I kept them, and they are still in the trunk of my car.

Edit: Just saw your "palm pilot" post. I would give it to lost and found.
