It's really all about perspective. Of course the U.S. Government would try and say that no civilians have been killed, and the coalition hasn't lost any soldiers...

On the other extreme, the numbers will be fudged. Of course I doubt many things the U.S. Government does, so....

I don't know the reputation of the source but if these claims are true, it's a scandle.

I am torn on the subject. If the goal is to make an independent state one must decide if the people can actually handle the truth.

We know to pull out now would more than likely leave the country much worse for wear.

If constant public outcry were to pressure the government into an action which is contrary to the good of all then I am for silence.

I believe that the casualties (however tragic) are a far cry from the tragedy that would occur if we were to cut and run right now. I believe it would embolden terrorists and regimes world wide. I believe the iraqis would suffer 100 fold what they suffer now. I believe that our word would be worth less than it is now in the world areana. (At the very least right now what we say is what we do. You could argue that we lied or were misinformed about the WMD But at least we stood good on our promise of action. to cut and run now would be worse than staying.)

Side note (un and aid workers have left afghanastan. Do we really want them in charge of iraq or afghanastan? They cut and run every time they get a bloody nose.)

"one must decide if the people can actually handle the truth."

yep..its not my ideal..but that is a fact of EVERY govt...this is a longstanding thing in AmericA AND ELSEWHERE...every single wartime govt shades the truth the way they think best.

All the feigned shock over it is a little silly.

The "living a lie" is soooooooooooooooo old now that if you even TRIED to tell America the real truth there would be total pandamonium.

I skimmed thru the article, but I didn't see where the author gave the "real" number of casualties. I did see some examples of poor logic and obvious bias though.

I'm inclined to believe the number given by the government for the number of US deaths: slightly over 500. My prediction was that that number would be 3000 before then end of major combat operations, which the President identified as May 1. So, I see every day that that number is below 3000 as a blessing.

513 GIs sent to their death; 8,000 medevacked out of Iraq; 2,919 wounded (missing arms or legs, or blinded, or psycho); and at least 22 GI suicides
This is the official count.
