Temporary show-biz. Quote: |

| And the fanatic Jewish settlers who want to live amongst hostile Palestinians are going to say what exactly if asked whether they want to leave?

| ClubMed, you have to start somewhere. You do agree this is an essential thing to do, don't you? Why complain just because it isn't the whole deal at once?

Theo,
If this was first I would be interested to see how it develops and I would express hope.
But there have been many great comments and promises in the past, nothing was ever done by any side that made promises or claimed to want to make a conciliatory step forwards.
It's naive to make any positive comments, all the signs speak clearly against any such moves becoming successful or even being carried out seriously.
So it has nothing to do with not getting the whole deal at once, it's about not believing in even the smallest of promises and steps.
I’m surprised that someone as intellectual as yourself reacts in such a way to a lack of hope or belief in a conflict that has spanned 60 years now and seen many promises forgotten, ignored or made without sincerity.

As I said, "Important if true."
I also remain skeptical about real progress; I agree that Sharon has shown no real evidence of wanting a just peace in the past. But he's in a hard place now: his policies have led to an impossible situation for Israel, and he's losing support on both his flanks.

Sharon is a hardliner, if he does go ahead with this move then he would be risking a massive support loss amongst his own like-minded voting populace and supporting block.
This would be like political suicide for him.

lol...I never ceased to be amazed....I guess we are putting Sharon in bold relief against that noted humanist man of peace....Yasser arafat? I would think even a child could see who the real stumbling block has been....if Yasser wouldnt take what Barak offered...then for the 50th time...it is PROVEN that YASSER doesnt want peace. (Never mind what the PLO charter says etc)
