Food Experienced Crafters

I've been contemplating buying a tempered glass desk/workcenter for awhile now and just recently I thought about building one myself using parts from my local Home Depot. Anyone know how I would go about doing this (what parts, and approx. cost)?

Would it be cheaper to buy this for $99.99 or build my own?

I'm no craftsman...I think it would be much cheaper/easier to buy it for $99 than build your own...also look a helluva lot better (the perferated metal keyboard shelf is cool).

I think I'm ready to buy it (before the price goes back up), but one thing I must do first is find a place for my old, heavy wooden desk to go. Are there people out there that buy used, but in perfect condition desks or is there a better option?

Classifieds sounds like quite a hassle.. but I will consider it if there is no other option.

Check out a 'bargan ad' price.
Don't know where you are, but the smaller papers have cheap 2 or 3 dollar adds with price of item caps. Pretty easy actually and your desk will get bought. I'm sure of it. Buy the one at the store. You can't buy the tempered glass top for 100 bucks.
Sell your old one for 50 bucks.

Yep, the desk you pictured, man, I can't understand how they can make 'em so cheap...take the advice offered above, you can't go wrong, man!

Thanks for the advice. Well... the desk cost me about $200 when I bought it a few years ago (~5 years).. $50 still sounds right for a selling price?

Send a message via AIM to nunyadam
If you want to have some fun with the old desk do it my way.

Put it out front with a big sign that says free! and watch how fast it leaves.

unless of course its a real nice desk. (got a pic of your old one?)
