Parents Attach "Version 2.0" To Baby's Name
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Midwest/0....ap/index.html
I'm instantly reminded of something from Seinfeld...
(George wants to name his first child 'Seven'.)
JERRY: "Seven? Yeah, I guess I could see it. Seven. Seven periods of school, seven beatings a day. Roughly seven stitches a beating, and eventually seven years to life. Yeah, you're doing that child quite a service." - From "The Seven" |

Heh, maybe they're visionaries, hmmm?
"Hello, Baby V.08, your job here on Earth is to de-frag the so-called Contemporary Society. They've got a mess of fragmented files in their collective consciousness, and we need for you to be a sort of 'file cleaner' on earth. Please use your time here to clean that societal disk!
It's the new frontier, after all. |

Clive Thompson at Collision Detection has this to say: Quote: |
I, too, have an alphanumeric name: Officially, I'm "Thomas Clive Thompson III". However, since it looks poncy beyond description to use the digits, I tend to leave 'em out. I suppose if I ever have a son I could name him Thomas Clive Thompson v. 4.0, but that strikes me as really ill-advised: It's almost always in the later versions that the code becomes complex and bloated, the bugs creep in, and everything crashes.

I wonder why many people don't want to find names for their kids. My own mother gave me her brother's name.

I know... My parents were the same way. My older brother was named after some miscellaneous indie rock star (err... mother was 19 at the time, give her a break) ... my name was pulled out of a book... My younger brothers were named after my dad's friend and my dad's uncle... My little sister's name was also pulled out of a hat somewhere.
NO EFFORT WHATSOEVER!
Oh well... At least they're "normal" names. I could have been named "Zelda".. or "Thelonius"... Parents can, after all, be cruel. |
