troops return

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...home-headlines

Their return home has, of course, been happier -- but no less confusing. Some families rushed to Fort Stewart days ago, worried they might miss the homecoming, only to spend days waiting at hotels getting often contradictory updates about the soldiers' progress home......

"They keep telling them, you're flying out tomorrow, then tomorrow comes and they're still there," Whalen said. "They already turned in their cold-weather gear, and it's freezing there at night. Dave told me they had to go buy blankets for $50 each. They're all going to catch pneumonia."

Whalen said her husband's unit was being bumped from flights because his company had been broken up and there were no officers left to push for their return.

It is pain to get home. Most Army folks don't know how the AF works, so they get queued and wait until there is room and nothing more important flying out. All pax and cargo are prioritzed and rotoating troops coming home are not always the highest priority. Not a perfect arragnement, but if they can get to Kuwait, they'll get home fairly directly.

I, on the other hand, got home from Afghanistan in a little over 24 hours, via Germany and coming home from Qatar was as simple as hopping on a contracted comercial airplane to Baltimore then home.

Sometimes logistics gets screwed up in the military. "Hurry up and wait" is a common phrase.

Channel 13 an affiliate of The Orlando Sentinel had an interview with family members that have been waiting since Wed. They were put up in a hotel that is costing them $150.00 a night. Sort of expensive lodging for an e6 with a wife and two kids to feed.

Their choice to go to Georgia. The military will get these folks back to their homes, their families can wait there. I didn't fly my wife out to Baltimore, she picked me up at the airport in Austin. This is nothing more than people whinning about making bad decisions.

Send a message via AIM to Mike
$150 a night on an E6 salary?

Same thing is happening around here, troops are coming home to Sacramento International, people sleeping in airports, etc.

You could give a million dollar check to some people and they'd bitch about having to go to the bank to cash it. Or better yet, the liberals on this board wuold bitch for them. These people are getting their loved ones back. I'm sure not all of them are staying in $150 a night hotels. I'm sure 99.999% of extremely happy.

Did your orginization have a welcome home photo op planned for you?

two bad decisions first listening to a lieing two star general that arranged the whole show for a photo op and the second was showing up for their duty unlike George Bush did in Alabama.

If I had the money I would help the families of the troops that have put their lives on the line.
I see all you rightwing radicals spout off about how you support the troops but when some need a hand all you can do is come up with a wise a** punk statement that is, I suppose meant to be funny.
