Outdoors atention walmart shoppers!!!

The giant retailer's low prices often come with a high cost. Wal-Mart's relentless pressure can crush the companies it does business with and force them to send jobs overseas. Are we shopping our way straight to the unemployment line?

We did in my town. When Wal-MArt came in, it ran both grocery stores, the photo shop, three clothing stores and some others out of business. Of course you know how that works, then without competition they raised their prices. The grocery thing is what really kills ya...

Great article!

I don't know how we can break the American habit of looking for the best deal, until we are all in the unemployment line.

what really gripes me is they want to inspect my purchases and check it against my reciept. My answer always is " if you have probable cause to search me all you have to do is tell me I am under arrest other wise get out of my way"

My purchases aren't searched at WalMart, but they are at Sam's Club. The WalMart here has a habit of jacking up the price for a few days then lowering it back to the original price with one of those smiley face signs saying they rolled back the price. That kind of pisses me off.

There used to be something called Fair Trade Pricing. It essentially allowed the manufacturer to delcare the retail price of an item. What Fair Trade Laws did was to allow smaller retailers to compete with larger retailers because the prices would be the same.

It was recognized that the entire population couldn't be supported on a payroll. It was a way to give people a means of living by having them open a business.

I don't shop at WalMart. There are none convieniently located near San Francisco. But ones I went in felt dingy. WalMart makes tremendous profit because it shoves the health care of its workers on to the public payroll.

Why is it that WalMarts name pops up in every type of violation lawsuits?

walmarts tactics are very questionable,to say the least. lower prices seem to be the bottom line for them. and apparently the american public thinks along the same lines.

unfortunately, its gonna take many more companies to do like levi-Strauss,huffy,and countless others have done( shut down operations in the USA) before the public realizes what they are responsible for. and that responsibility is simple: spending money at walmart. if you dont spend money there, you just may save your job,or jobs of your friends and family.

i had a similar question HERE . i bowed to the almighty wallyworld and purchased my workboots from them.

after reading this article and one on the NPR website about walmart, i wish i hadnt.

i ve been a union carpenter for over 25 years. we like to frequent establishments that were constructed by union labor.

walmart here is one of those places.i worked on it for several weeks.

i truly wish it wasnt.

i hope the folks in this country take notice of this before its TOO late.

i dont like walmart.. often there prices are not lower. (though in my case local business have gained or lost little), the gain comes from the two closets "cities" having no walmart, and ames going out of business they all travel here.

the biggest reason i dont like my walmart is because they train people here, then send them to other walmarts. so i never have service often i know more about the product i inquire about then the clerk.

and becasue the assistant manager at mine called me a liar to my face (bought two bikes, and both broke within a week due to bad assembly.. but she couldnt believe that they werent assembled perfectly and said that i switched wheels and stuff)

People love taking pot shots at the top dog.

By the way, they have EVERY right to search your package against your receipt.

Perhaps in Russia, not in the united states of America. You need to go back to Law school on that one.
Not even a policeman can search you without probable cause. Walking out of a store is not with packages is not a suspicious activity.
If a security person says they have observed you steal something then and only then may you be detained and searched in a private setting by a person of the same sex.
Unless you want a law suit it is best to wait for the police and have them do it. A merchant has the right to detain you only if you have actually commited a crime. It is not against the law to walk out of a store with packages.
