Canadians Allowed to Beat Their Children

Sorry... I can't resist putting a spin on news lately.

Top Court Upholds Spanking Law

Of course, the children's advocacy groups are up-in-arms. Can't be disciplining kids... No good can ever come of that.

I see many kids around that should have been "disciplined" more often.

If my kid ever does something that needs "discipline," I`m going to make sure the little guy remembers that it wasn`t a smart thing to do... FOREVER. If Spanking is illegal by the time the kid needs it, then by all means - Send me to jail.

I see no issue with spanking. As long as you're not beating your child. One good smack is enough. My parents did to me. It shows that there are BAD consequences for doing things wrong.

Just going "No, no. Don't do that", doesn't do much for many kids now-a-days. They ignore it. Timeouts?? Puulease!!

I'm not advocating spanking for everything. You don't spank for everything. That's wrong too. Only if it's a major thing they did. Like stealing. Talking back to your parents harshly is another one that deserves spanking. If they aren't taught to respect their parents then they won't respect anyone when they grow up.

I respect people, unless they give me a reason not to. Even if I don't respect them I won't make fun of them.

These child-advocates need to learn that there is a BIG, HUGE canyon of a difference between DISCIPLINE spanking and ABUSE spanking.

well, time outs as more and more parents are doing in the states, all they are causing is the thought of.... hey if i do this all they do is put me in the corner for 5 minutes...piece of cake.... well 20 years later its the same thing, only after killing someone, stealing a car whatever..... jail isnt anything new than being put in a corner.... as they were never truly "punished" as a child for misbehaving.sometimes a child needs to feel pain ie(spanking, a good slap on the hand for stealing a cookie before lunch) to know that somthing will happen to them if they goof up.

As for parents who beat their children for the fun of it.... theres a special place in hell for them..... right next to jeff domere and hitler.

Right on both counts, jokostel, IMHO. I believe that's largelyt the cause for all these punk kids running around, is the lack of discipline...

Maybe I should've put this is the drop your 2 cents thread

I see plent of kids who need a "discipline" at school. And if they keep it up they're about to get one, even if it's not from their parents...

As a matter of fact I think some parents need to be "punnished" for not disciplining their kids. Because it's getting outa hand sometimes.

There is a difference between spanking a child and mistreating one. Figure out yourself which one is ilegal and which one should not be.

Pretty wild when you look back just a bit and remember that TEACHERS...were allowed to spank kids. I remember my 4th grade teacher grabbing the yardstick and popping a kid and the stick breaking etc.

Nowadays we say that was "bad"..and she would be totally crucified with a national fury today....but I ask you to compare schools then (oh, 1976-77ish I guess) and compare them now.
