The Great State of Georgia Marches Forward...

...Into The Nineteenth Century:

Georgia Takes on 'Evolution'
By ANDREW JACOBS

TLANTA, Jan. 29 — A proposed set of guidelines for middle and high school science classes in Georgia has caused a furor after state education officials removed the word "evolution" and scaled back ideas about the age of Earth and the natural selection of species.

Educators across the state said that the document, which was released on the Internet this month, was a veiled effort to bolster creationism and that it would leave the state's public school graduates at a disadvantage.

"They've taken away a major component of biology and acted as if it doesn't exist," said David Bechler, who heads the biology department at Valdosta State University. "By doing this, we're leaving the public shortchanged of the knowledge they should have." ...

But wait, it gets even better...

Now they're proposing to exclude the Civil War from the American History curriculum.

They are clearly messed up. This is coming from a Creationist, but I do believe evolution should be taught in schools.....and students should be taught that its a farce.

Or rather put in its place. In nowise is evolutionary theory complete; and it has so many holes in it that it resembles a tin cup blasted with a shotgun. They should teach that many people believe that with the marvelous intricate complexity of the universe, that only one thing could be responsible for it’s current form: a supreme being, and then leave it at that.
By conversely also offer evolution and let the student decide (over their life time, yes learning is a perpetual process) as to what theory suites them best.
How ever that would take humility, something the human species seems to be in short supply of.

Methinks much more emphasis should be placed on the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, UFO's, the Lochness Monster, and Creationist Theory. In that order. Wait, add leprechauns before Santa Claus.

Rather than "Supreme Being," I think it would be better to substitute "magic." All kids dig magic and it'd make for one hell of a lesson plan!!

Yeah!!
That would be good! We could then explain where all the energy in the universe came from!! It appeared magically and then coalesced into matter to create the Big Bang! Great Idea!
