What's wrong with the stupid voters?

Brian McGrory, of the Boston Globe, had this excellent commentary on NPR this morning.

Quote:
Do you have any idea how many millions of dollars we spend on polls? We have national polls, state polls, tracking polls, rolling polls, rolling tracking polls, tracking rolling polls. And when we use irrefutable science to determine exactly who wins what race and why, you willfully ignore the memo. So there's the problem: You're not paying enough attention, and I don't mean to the boring candidates. To us.

Polls are interesting.

But were it not for polls I think that dean would still be on top.

Polls are too devicive and keep people from voting their conscience.

The goal is to get rid of Bush for the "Bush-Bashers" yet many of them actually like dean better. Dean will not likely win AFAIAC due to polls. Unless there is a swing in the polls which causes kerry people to defect.

Yesterday on "All Things Considered" they read two emails from listeners who complained about all the attention paid to polls. The gist of them was that people consistently tell the media that they care about issues, but the media (including NPR) continues to ignore the issues and devotes the vast majority of their attention to polls. I believe one of the listeners told them that this is "not a horse race."

ATC had no comment or response.

I wonder who spends more money, the candidates trying to get elected or the press covering the election?
