My beloved Aunt passed away....
My Aunt who loved and raised me like a son has succomed to cancer yesterday, she was 72. She died at home under the care of a hospice group, and since my uncle is a staunch atheist there will be no memorial service of any kind and she is being cremated as I write this.
Interestingly enough, as she was breathing her last breaths, I was in the breakroom at work composing a poem to send her - it is that poem I would like to share with all of you. My Beloved Aunt Nancie
You are the most wonderful person in the world to me:
If I live to be a hundred,
You will always be,
Forever etched in beauty,
In all my memory.
And if I worked each minute,
Of each and every day,
Nary not a tenth,
Of your love could I repay.
A million things you've done for me,
I could not name each one,
I'd run short of ink and time and words,
Before I'd half begun.
You were there in my first memories,
Of beach, and park, and pool,
Of friends, and camp, and camping trips,
Of popcicles, and school.
Every aspect of my life is touched,
By your warmth, and voice, and face,
Every memory has you in it,
And every fond embrace.
A hundred thousand meals you cooked,
All seasoned from the heart,
A hundred thousand dishes washed,
And that was just a start.
A hundred thousand loads of wash,
You did without complaint,
You often nursed me back to health,
I think you are a saint.
Even in my rebellion,
Often rude and full of spite,
Your care for me was stronger,
A shining guiding light.
So all these things do I recall,
And do you know what you did?
You loved as much as any son,
Your brother's lonely kid.

She will be sore missed..
