We all know it was about the oil , George. Give it a rest. You, Dick and Haliburton can sit out the next four years. Good riddance !!!!!

Hey Pickel,

How much oil do we get from the Middle East? Hint it is not much.

You want oil? Take over the Saudi Arabia/Kuwaiti oilfields. I'm no major fan of Bush myself, but Pickel being a vet I'm surprised you haven't grasped the overall strategic picture beyond oil. National sovereignty is still intact and commerce continues. The US ensured that oil would still flow to all purchasing nations, by US blood. The only US "war booty" is the removal of an unstable dictator and the open opportunity to do business. If not Cheney and Haliburton(gag) then someone else. Right or wrong, a "big stick" influence in the Middle East has moved in. Previous saber-rattling Iran, Syria, Jordan and Egypt are pretty damn quiet now. So is Israel. Libya rolled over even. It's a transition period they will either likely welcome or reject, with consequences both ways. Call it "empirical supression" or "regional stability", it's your choice but in the long term let's see how it pans out.

Exactly. We get most of our oil (40%) from Venezuela. We get less than 15% of our oil from the Middle East. (It's actually 13% based on the media accounts and general briefings I have attended.)

If there is so much oil here, why does the price of gas keep rising so high?

Angelcat,

Different issue. It depends on many issues. Some cities require reformulated gasoline to meet EPA standards which adds roughly 10 cents a gallon. If you are close to a refinery, gas tends to be cheaper. If your state does not have a high tax on gas, count yourself lucky. Refineries also have shift their production a couple of times a year to meet upcoming demand, such as in the fall to make heating oil.
