i went shopping for a warmer pair of boots. i work outside and its been between 0 and 10 F and my old boots just arent cutting it anymore.

soo..against my better judgement,i went to *shudder* walmart.
there was a pair of herman survivor thinsulated boots on sale for around 45 bucks.

herman survivor boots used to be manufactured in good ol` Wisconson, but now are being manufactured in *guess*

you got it. china.

after shaking my head,i purchase them. just looking at them i can see the quality isnt there.

anywayy.....i waddle on over to gander mountain to attempt to find some warmer gloves for work.

every single pair, bar none, was made overseas.(the ones i looked at)

noticing this,i strolled over to the boot section and looked at a pair of redwing irish setter insulated boots. i recall these boots used to cost well over 100 bucks.

not anymore. and guess where they are now made? not in redwing minnisota

so i thought i d check one more brand.

lacrosse. another wisconson-made boot,or so i thought. same thing. china.

three "MADE PROUDLY IN THE U S OF A" manufacturers (and rather local ones to me,i might add) now are getting their products from overseas.

and where are all the folks working that used to work for these companys??

i guess what scares me the most is:

wheres it gonna stop??

i m not much for stirring the political pot here at TIMO. i avoid politiical debates like the plague.

but maybe somebody could explain how this is"good" for everyone involved, not just the bottom line dollar amount at the stockholder meetings of companies such as these.

cripes,i ve wound myself up into a tizzy! almost as pissed as the "mad cow"

thats enuff.

brad

Just try and relax man. Its only going to get worse.

When a company can pay a worker $.50 a Day and have the employee make 10 or so units(chlothes, shoes, cartridges, etc...) they will be able to under cut quality products. Unfortunately until experienced personnel are willing to work for free( or nearly so) the spiral wont change.

The big corporations are all about greed, and it wont stop until the we, the consumers, decide that paying extra for quality is the way to go.
We have to "buy american" or higher quality at least, instead of buying from the lowest supplier.

Go into any Harley Davidson shop, and it's the same thing. Many of the actual parts (on the bikes and accessories) are made overseas. I don't think I've seen a piece of clothing in one that was made in the USA.....except maybe printed T shirts. Almost impossible to "Buy American" anymore.

Oh well, at least they're American owned, I guess.

Maybe they should change the slogan to "Shipped To The USA"

That's part of the reason I like to shop in Retro Clothing shops and Thrift shops... I know I got a good one when it says USA on the tag.
Don't blame the companies any more than the consumers and employees.

Everyone wanted cheaper. The good old standard companies only stayed in business because they did outsource.
Lots of jobs were lost yes, but not all of them. But the cheaper imports with high corporate profits is where the consumer turned, we didn't know what we were loosing till it was gone.

And most don't care.

Absolutely right on the head of the nail Surreal. A person could write a song about that ( probably end up being country though.... ).

You get what you pay for. The problem is that no one is willing to pay good money for a good product.

Well, it's more complicated than that, but the point is valid.
