QUESTIONS ABOUT BUSH'S MILITARY SERVICE LINGER

Quote:
Questions about President Bush's military service were raised at last night's
Democratic debate by Peter Jennings who called charges of desertion from
the Texas Air National Guard "reckless" and "not supported by the facts."
However, meticulously collected evidence suggests that there are continuing
questions.

ABC News anchor Peter Jennings questioned General Wesley Clark about whether
he should have disputed supporter Michael Moore's assertion that President
Bush was a "deserter" from the Texas Air National Guard in 1972. Mr.
Jennings said, "At one point, Mr. Moore said, in front of you, that
President Bush - he's saying he'd like to see you, the general, and
President Bush, who he called a 'deserter.' Now, that's a reckless charge
not supported by the facts. And I was curious to know why you didn't
contradict him, and whether or not you think it would've been a better
example of ethical behavior to have done so."

Despite Mr. Jennings characterization, the facts relating to the president's
military service, beginning in 1968, and abruptly ending in 1972 -- two
years prior to his six-year commitment -- are not at all clear.

* Investigative reporters with the Boston Globe looked into Bush's
service during the 2000 presidential campaign, in an article that appeared
on July 28th.

* A retired member of the Air National Guard has obtained several memos
and official letters regarding Mr. Bush's military service, and provided an
analysis of whether the president "did the duty necessary," as he
maintains.
* A scanned copy of President Bush's request to be transferred to an
inactive postal Reserve unit in Alabama (he requested the transfer to work
on a U.S. Senate campaign) can be viewed here:

* A scanned copy of the denial of Bush's transfer order can be viewed
here: http://daily.misleader.org/ctt.asp?u=1155689&l=15659

* A scanned copy of the memo confirming Bush's suspension from the Air
National guard for "failure to accomplish annual medical examination can be
viewed here: http://daily.misleader.org/ctt.asp?u=1155689&l=15660

You won't get a reply to this because it can't be lied away. These files can't be placed in a presidential library where they can't be viewed.

Funny that this question pretty much buried Wesley Clark last night, the second chance he's had to address it and he looked twice as stupid as he did the first time.

But I'm sure toad isn't supporting Wesley Clark. He's not that naive.

For such a (by all accounts) smart guy, Clark sure didn't come across that way to me. He seems pretty slow on his feet.

It can't be that he isn't used to this stuff, what with being Mr. NATO Supreme whatever . . .

Like all supreme commanders he has spent his entire life either being told what to do or telling some what to do. He has never questioned or been questioned by anyone on any decision. For that reason I would not vote for a career military man.
You can not run a country through blind obedience no matter what Karl Rove thinks.

Hey genious, he wasn't in that position from day one in his military career. Just like anyone else, he had to work his way up...

Did you think Eisenhower was a bad president? He held an equivalent position as Clark, albeit at a time of war.

Read the 13th word in my post genius. I suppose you question your superiors when given an order. I spent more time in the payline than you have been playing army.
Ike was a good commander but only a mediocre pesident. He did not understand politics and was smart enough to get out.

Hey whitebeard --

In todays Army, the leadership doesn't want "yes" men! They want thinkers that are also doers! That's one of the reason we have fewer casualties in combat today.

BTW, I spent 13 years "in the payline" as you put it and I'm proud of the intelligence and professionalism of todays Army. Wart is an intelligent thinker, or he wouldn't last long in todays Army. Our current Military isn't made up of bodies filling positions, it's made up of people who have to be intelligent, dedicated, and forward looking, capable of leading on a moments notice.

I can't and won't argue with your perception of Ike though!
