Well, when they are in mudslinging mode the little "human" mistakes tend to carry more weight...all that throwing of stones tends to mess with one's own glass decorations.

It has nothing to do with anyone being human. It's an issue of, "Who cares?"

If he wants to get up and scream his face off in a bout of pure, unrestrained passion for his country - who cares? I'd rather have that than some fool who, day by day, flushes the country down the toilet with purely idiotic choices. That is something that I, and many others probably WOULD care about. And something that DOES matter.
