Consider the current US/British military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, while taking into account how events are proceeding.

I clicked other. I believe that the Multi-lateral action in Iraq is sowing seeds that could potentially yield the fruit of peace long term. The insurrection have been replicating for a century or more. Hopefully the weed of freedom will take root in the arid lands and slowly dominate the evil and cruelty that dominates the power structures in the middle east.

The action in Iraq may short order make thing less safe. but if all works out as planned it could very well ultimately make things much safer. Time and determination are what will determine the outcome.

I guess you would need to frame you question a bit better.

Do I feel as if the iraq action has made us safer today or even 6 months out. I do not know. I would guess that odds are that it did not change the chances of an attack on american soil a whole lot in the next year.

There is a big IF as stated above. There is no guarantee except for the fact that iraqis would die every year at saddams hands.

Anything else you would require a crystal ball. hell 75 years out France may be in a religious war with its own population for all we know.

Iraq is but one fish in the pond. Look at how China and Korea are starting to flex their might too.

I worded it quite alright, because the aim is to see what people think of the current course of action that has been chosen in dealing with age old problems.

Don't you find future fruits more important than current fruits?

War is a perfect example of future fruits. We all pretty much can say that wasting germany in wwii was a good thing.

Blowing up, killing, maiming, Loss of tremendous amounts of treasure and history in smoking wreckage. Yet the world is probably better off with out hitler and the third reich.

the US could have remained at home and played isolationist (perhaps turning the war a bit) Would we have been safer?

We could have appologized to japan for being mean and driving them to their action leaving them to keep china. Would we be safer now had we done that.

One thing is for sure, that there would have been alot less money spent, and we would have saved alot of lives during the period of 1941 - 1945. How many would have died since that period is a guess.
