As if sectarian violence weren't enough:

It's easy for those who are already bigots to add new hatreds.

Belfast, once the engine of violence between Catholics and Protestants, is being seized by a new kind of hostility — racism, fueled in large part by the recent arrival of Asians, blacks, Indians and Pakistanis in Northern Ireland, which in 2001 was still 99 percent white.

I did not complete the article. but why was this determined to be racist? There only words mentioned were that the thugs wanted their money.

Could this not have been an example of apathy on the part of the bystanders now willing to put their lives on the line defending strangers.

Not saying that the articles conculsions about rise in racial incidents on the rise. But I just do not see how they conclude that this robbery and assault was out of character for normal robberies.

has an incident like this ever occurred in the area with white thug and white victim. Just seems strange the conclusion drawn with facts presented.

perhaps they did not list the details because they are generally known in the community. Or bystanders questioned stated that they did not act due to their race or that racial slurs were used.

Need more details before I agree with this article's assumption that this was racial.

I think it's okay to be against religions, as long as you're not physically or mentally violent towards anyone. I philosophically hate other religions, but I've never hated any PERSON involved in them. I just hate the teachings, because I honestly believe they're wrong and deceiving. I say there's nothing wrong with that. But when people start hating PEOPLE because of religious beliefs or racial differences, that's a completely different story and totally unacceptable. And violence on top of that is unthinkable to me! It's like these people turn into wild uncontrollable beasts and mindlessly rampage. Emphasis on MINDLESSLY.
