Something to think about...

a friend sent me this (as well as everybody else she knows) as a chain letter. just thought id share it with you guys...

The following scene took place on a BA flight between Johannesburg and London.... A white woman was seated next to a black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. "Madam, what is the matter", the hostess asked. "You obviously do not see it then?", She responded. "You placed me next to a black man. I WILL NOT sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat." "Be calm please!", the hostess replied. "Almost all the seats on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another is available." The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later. "Madam", said the hostess, "just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. But I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is also no seat in the business class. All the same, we have but one in the first class." Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued. "It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone sooooo disgusting." She turned to the black man, and said. "Therefore, Sir, if you would please follow me, a seat awaits you in the first class." At the moment, the other passengers, who were shocked by what they had just witnessed, stood up and applauded.

i dunno bout any of you guys, but... if i were that stewardess, i would've handed that woman a parachute (improperly packed and cut full of holes, of course) and offered her a seat on the landing gear. then taken that dude to first class...

you do relize that first class is better than economy class. Rather than moving the white brat, they gave the man first class. He got a better seat for his money.

If anyone needs to be tossed out the airplane with an improperly packed parachute, it needs to be the white brat and not the stewardess.

Edit: on a second note not sure if this "chain mail" of yours is appreoperate for timo.

That's one smart captain there and I hope the black man is very comfortable.

This has been posted at TIMO before. Dunno if it's a true story or an Urban Myth, but it makes it's point quite well.

It's fine for here AFAIC, Neo. Racism has no place in a society that respects all persons.

Cheers
Mick

I ain't real and the woman obviously had to speak in a posh accent so that we'd all think it was a british woman, wouldn't we.

Here is what truth or fiction (another hoax and chain letter site) says.

Snopes is back up, and has that story on it's site. Not refuted or denied. But an interesting aside noted:
Quote:
Unfortunately, such legends, though they have their uses in helping us feel better about our world, can also prove damaging and hurtful to those tarred by their brush. In 2001, Hubbard Foods of New Zealand, a company that produces breakfast cereal, erred by including the "South African woman seated next to a Black man" legend as a travel story in a children's newsletter inserted in boxes of its product. The tale had been selected for inclusion as an uplifting story imbued with a moral message, and no one thought to check its accuracy.

South Africans living in New Zealand were outraged by it. They saw the leaflet as unfairly painting them as racist, furthering an apartheid-era stereotype that is no longer valid. Hubbard Foods apologized but claimed it was too late and far too expensive to withdraw the boxes from store shelves.
Always two sides to any story, I suppose.

Cheers
Mick
