Missing from the State of the Union Message:

Moon. Mars.

Present - athletes taking steroids:
Quote:
To help children make right choices, they need good examples. Athletics play such an important role in our society, but, unfortunately, some in professional sports are not setting much of an example. The use of performance-enhancing drugs like steroids in baseball, football, and other sports is dangerous, and it sends the wrong message -- that there are shortcuts to accomplishment, and that performance is more important than character. So tonight I call on team owners, union representatives, coaches, and players to take the lead, to send the right signal, to get tough, and to get rid of steroids now.
Missing: Environment.

Present -- drug testing in schools:
Quote:
One of the worst decisions our children can make is to gamble their lives and futures on drugs. Our government is helping parents confront this problem with aggressive education, treatment, and law enforcement. Drug use in high school has declined by 11 percent over the last two years. Four hundred thousand fewer young people are using illegal drugs than in the year 2001. (Applause.) In my budget, I proposed new funding to continue our aggressive, community-based strategy to reduce demand for illegal drugs. Drug testing in our schools has proven to be an effective part of this effort. So tonight I proposed an additional $23 million for schools that want to use drug testing as a tool to save children's lives. The aim here is not to punish children, but to send them this message: We love you, and we don't want to lose you.

Nor did he mention the government's role in enforcing proper oral hygiene. Shocking!

Anybody watch Ted Kennedy during the speech? LOL Someone needs to put together a clip with all the shots of Kennedy shaking his head and rolling his eyes, with the audio of Dean's psycho-shreek after losing in Iowa. "...take back the White House... YEEAAHHHH!!!"

Forget the speech full of empty promises, forget the media platitudes and ersatz adulations, forget wishful thinking. If you want to know the real state of the union, take a good look with your eyes.

See the millions of unemployed, many with advanced college degrees? THAT is the state of the union.

See the high-paying jobs flowing to other countries? THAT is the state of the union.

See the dollar in decline and nothing left to arrest the fall? THAT is the state of the union.

See corporate executives looting their own companies and then walking free? THAT is the state of the union.

See the schools that lack basic supplies? THAT is the state of the union.

See the closed emergency rooms? THAT is the state of the union.

See the holes in the roads? THAT is the state of the union.

See the rolling blackouts? THAT is the state of the union.

See the defense budget bloat to half a trillion dollars? THAT is the state of the union.

See the new nuclear weapons the US Government is building? THAT is the state of the union.

See the billions in tax dollars pouring out to foreign governments? THAT is the state of the union.

See the American women and children sleeping in alleys and eating out of trash dumpsters? THAT is the state of the union.

See the empty storefronts and commercial vacancies? THAT is the state of the union.

See the closed factories, the rusted foundries, and the abandoned mills? THAT is the state of the union.

See the soaring bankruptcies and foreclosures? THAT is the state of the union.

See the poverty and starvation? THAT is the state of the union.

And then there are the things you don't see.

You don't see those nuclear weapons Iraq was supposed to be building. But we invaded Iraq anyway. THAT is the state of the union.

You don't see chemical or biological weapons we were all assured Saddam had. But we invaded Iraq anyway. THAT is the state of the union.

And most of all you don't see the United States looked up to as a bastion of freedom, law, and democracy any more. You don't see the United States looked upon as a moral leader any more. You don't see the United States looked on as a leader in technology any more.

And THAT, my fellow Americans, is the real state of the union.

The State of the Union: The United States of America is eating its young. Bush, in his quest for social Darwinsim, is dismanteling the government and indebting it to the point it will never function.

What separates Bush from the Barbarians? The Barbarians would treats its own population good while it vanquished others. Bush doesn't even care about his own!

The democrats. Seems they want the country all to themselves, my way or the highway.

Actually tony_j15, all you need to do is watch the news and read information about the internet. Some of the stuff is really obvious, as well. (I will point out only a few).

I have known a few people that have been in between jobs because their companies aren't doing very well (all with college degrees) and they are having a hard time finding work. In this area, HP, Oracle, and several other tech companies have been laying off hundreds, if not thousands of workers.

The dollar is weak to just about everything right now, (even the CDN dollar, at the moment). I was planning a trip to the UK for the spring/summer, but that can't happen since the USD is so weak.

Remember Enron? All you need is to have Bush as a friend, and you walk free (letting a peon take the fall for you).

24 of the more upscale food stores all of them either near or surrounded by gated communities have announced they will close by march first. Commercial realestate in downtown Orlando, Florida is going for one half what it was four years ago weeds are growing through the pavement of shopping centers all over central Florida. I have worked in Missouri so tell me what you have in S.W Missouri other than soybeans and hogs. Go to Branson and tell them how great everything is. Same thing for Lake of the Ozarks area. I have friends there they tell me it is the worst it has been in 20 years.

Actually I live in one of the more affluent countys in Fl.

Apartment buildings are putting out signs that if you refer a tennant and they sign a one year lease you recieve $300.00 at the end of the lease. Four years ago the same complex had a no vacancy sign.

White beard that can be taken two ways cant it.

With low interest rates people are running from the piss your money away method of apartment rental to the more economically sound invest money in an house mentality.

In a world where people feel they can afford housing much of the demand for appartments will dry up.

New housing has been strong through most of the recession.
