My hands are so chapped....help!
Ok any little secrets? I ignored them too long. I think it started when I took off a layer (Ok all of it but the deepest prints) from my palms rubbing Tung oil in a piece of wood I'm heating oil (Bag Balm) to liquid to put on them before the cotton sox and nighty night..
But now the backs are so red chapped and ouch...
Any home remedies here?

Quote: Originally posted by surreal I'm heating oil (Bag Balm) to liquid to put on them before the cotton sox and nighty night.. | That is an excellent remedy! It'll take a few days for the "lobster claws" to refresh, but if you keep at it for a few nights, your little paws should be just fine! |

| | Guest | Thanks Knot, cause right now they feel like dried up ham hocks.
I guess before I tried to rub the oil and make it glossy I should have had a better understanding of what the finished product looked like
GeezE I feel like Giminie Cricket typing with these white gloves on | |

my first idea is aloe.... but that may not be right because you may need to help heal some skin with an antibacterial lotion.
protective gloves next time. But for now, for healing, ur skin needs water/ moisture..... but not too much..... drink enough fluids to keep hydrated.....
may not be a bad idea to put some of Knots's stuff on under a pair of gloves for a deep treatment for a nite....
gotta keep on top of this......
PLEASE SURREAL and EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!!!!! safety first!!!!!!!!

Tung oil is the primary component in the "Danish Finish" and what you get is a really nice, satin-finish. Looks great on Walnut, Birch, English Oak, etc. It isn't glossy, but boy, is it sensual.
For a glossy finish, you use varnish. Good heavens, now I understand. can you tell, I once did the same thing, lol! |

I've always wondered if Blistex or Carmex would work on chapped skin other than lips.Has anyone tried this?

Bag Balm
Tea tree oil
Corona ointment
Heel Mender
(veterinary products with a vaseline type consistancy ie: greasy---except HeelMender)
All my faves, went thru a 1 year period of skin oddities after an allergic reaction (wasp sting) and 18 Drs---my skin was replacing itself daily and quite a mess with my hands being the worst...
What I eventually did after using all independently with great results was mix them together 25% each and I now have a special blend thats FANTASTIC!
I find using these greasy products that if it feels greasy after applying you have used too much---id never use more then a pencil erasure sized glop---and also, all 18 dermatologists I saw told me gloves/socks any handcoverings after treatment would help make it worse---I was covering them so I could drive, sleep, handle the phone, do laundry etc etc with out making a mess all over---I was using too much and covering the hands makes them sweat way increasing the problem...
PM your addy ill share some :-)

cornhuskers lotion it works wonders in only a few hours. I used it when I was trucking, bought a bottle every fall and kept it in the truck for trips to the frozen north. Don't need it here though time now is midnight outside temp is a freezing 51 degrees F. I think I bought it at Walgreens. http://www.skinhelp.com/conaffairs/cornhuskers.shtml
Following is an article on french polishing I use the same technique skipping the shelac and using a ball of old t shirts heat the wood first with a heat lamp makes it go faster the gloss is controlled by the number of coats. http://www.weeno.com/art/1200/240.html

He quietly suffered with no complaints.
He used bag balm. Everynight.
I remember him doing this. slather a ton of cold bag balm right over his hands palms, tops of hands, fingers, between fingers, slathered them up good and thick then mom would put socks on his hands and he sleep all night with them balmed up socks. He kept doing this everyday till they healed. Then he was good to go for a while longer then out comes the treatment again. Works great, Dad swears by bag balm.
He never heated it to a liquid tho, not sure why you are. just slather it on thick and sleep with socks on over night then in morning take your shower and gently wash your hands with mild lukewarm to warm water with gentle non-harsh soap.
