do you believe in astrology?
just curious, you may ask why I'm curious on this particular night, okay well let me tell you since i'm already in the process of writing I have a nightly ritual I guess, after the wife and baby girl are asleep I go out on the front porch for a cigerette, and tonight I was looking at the stars and noticed the lack of a moon, and I realized that I had gotten alot accomplished today, I felt good and seemed to have alot of energy, That happens alot, I'll have some excess energy and get alot done and notice, hmmm it's a new moon, my wife tells me I get cranky when it's a full moon, it's become a joke of sorts, if I'm moody I say "well it must be a full moon", then I go out for my smoke and it's in that three day full moon period. It's a known fact that, crazy people, animals, kids, all act differently during a full moon, ask any teacher, emergency room personnel, cop, et cetera, also it effects the tides. I know it's the gravitational pull that effects the tides, but is it that much of a stretch to think they might effect us as well? Of course I'm not talking newspaper astrology here, I'm talking the people who actually spend their lives studying it. So what are your thoughts?

Interesting thread, there, Sao!
Yeah, I've heard about that "full moon effect"...but that has only a tangential relationship to astrology.
I think that Astrology is a viable avenue towards understanding who we are...I actually do believe that, at the moment of your birth, the energies of the universe, configured as they are at that moment, are your "gifts" that influence and help to direct your life.
In other words, the planets do indeed affect our lives.
And just IMO, but I don't believe in "Astrological Forecasts", as I'm a big fan of the spiritual force of freewill...but when the moon is full, or the planet Mercury goes retrograde, I do know enough to DUCK! |

Me, believe in Astrology? Nope.
And the whole "full moon thing" is a myth too. It's not that hard to check the stats of whatever it is you want to gage (emergency room patients, arrests, accidents, whatever). If you check the stats of full moon nights vs. non-full moon nights you'll see there's no increase or decrease on full moon nights. It's just another night.
It's certainly romantic and quaint to think the moon has some kind of effect over us in it's different phases. But other than a little tug of gravity (which doesn't change with the moon phases) it ain't doing nothing to our psyche.

I always wondered why I'm constantly falling down in the morning during a last quarter. |

Astrology.
Nope. to say that everyone born on the fifth of july is smart and outgoing is rediculous. There are ugly intraverts born on the fifth of july. The chinese one is even more funny an entire year of people who are either outgoing or faithful or funny.
Does the moon have some effect on us. Probably not as stats dont bear it out much. Probably any affect the full moon has on us could be attributed to increased rapes when the romance of the moon fails to arouse your female partner. or things like the fact that you can see at night as you stalk that little old lady walking home with a half gallon of milk for her husbands coffee.
Nah I simply do not buy that all people born under certain planetary conditions are a certain way.
Now a winter child may have more motor skills because as summer rolls around they learn certain skills at the precise moment when their brains are ready to acquire the info. Longer days to explore their world during critical moment in development.
That might be an example of any patterns seen.

Absolutely not. But then, I'm a Taurus, and Tauruses never believe in astrology.

LOL, Theo!
When you do an astrological chart, you'll see not only your 'sun' sign, (when you say "I'm a Leo" that's what you're referring to) but also the moon, (just as important) plus the rest of the planets from Mercury to Pluto.
The positions of all these celestial bodies at the moment of your birth DO tend to impart very clear personality aspects, IMO. BUT...you have to read the whole chart to see it. Quote: Originally posted by Epidemic

BTW, if you ever run into a woman with Venus in Scorpio, WHOO-HOO! Lookout! They are the hottest gals in all creation!! |

Knothead,
I still do not buy it. I would say that other than advantages of seasons and the rearing of kids. there would be little affect of 10E-66 gravitational field on a persons development.
Like I said a spring baby may be more active or a better athlete because summer arrived as they were learning to walk thereby giving them the greater challenge of walking in grass.
To say that everyone who was born under scorpio blah blah blah is a less capable mechanic or tends to be quiet is rediculous AFAIAC.
Ugly people smart people, fat people, thin people angry people, empathetic people are born every day. I just am not buying it. and I see little evidence in patterns.
In fact I probably could find most of your traits in virtually any sign as they are written vaguely and broadly.
