When your name outlives its political correctness

Chink's Steaks, a Philadelphia establishment for 55 years, has caught the attention of the local PC Police, who believe the name to be a racial slur (it's actually the nickname of the founding proprieter).

By the way, don't let the name fool you. This is not some fancy establishment serving t-bones or filet mignon, just a decent Philly cheesesteaks.

"Chink" was/is a pronounciation of a mis-spelled acronym for Chinese Communists(Chinc). Correct military shorthand acronym I believe was CHICOMS = Chinese Communists.

Regardless, that is ridiculous.

crazyness...notice how this girl (and i say girl, not woman), is only 21, and most likely in college? just a side note, reminds me of some of the "hippy protestors" as we like to call them here on campus.

Yep, things change. Myrtle Beach's most famous and longest lasting gift shop (from the 50s, I think) is called the Gay Dolphin.

Some people should leave stuff alone. Good grief.

It's alright, I prefer to eat a cheesesteak from South Philly.

I was waiting for you to chime in, Mike! Even though I'm an hour from Philly, I can't get a decent cheesesteak here. You never know what you have till it's gone.

I'm ethnic Chinese...four generations in America. I'm not offended. If the sign has some "Fu Man Chu" type lettering, I would. I would suggest he hang a picutre of Chink Sherman in the establishment.

I'm not one to be offended by words; only by what people might mean. Twenty-five years ago, two co-workers would call me a "Chinaman". One I didn't take offense. The other, I told that if he kept calling me that, "I'd knock his teeth in!"

The difference was the first was an older guy raised in the very rural midwest. He never interacted with Chinese and was actually trying to be polite. He knew "Chink" was not good. The other guy was my age raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He knew better! The second guy shut up when I threw an oak chair in his direction after he got really out of hand using slurs!
