Is my bed the same w/no boxspring?

Odd question. Anyone gone from a boxspring to no boxspring and noticed a difference? I'm looking at a good deal on a sweeeeet bedframe, but it just has room for the mattress, no boxspring. Obviously it has built in support stucture, but I don't know if it's the same. After all, the boxspring is flat but it's better than the floorl. It's a really good boxspring, so I don't want to get rid of it if I'll lose support. I'd give it away or something, can't really shove that big thing in the closet.

Anyone know?

I have done this and it was firmer. Actually significantly firmer... I actually liked it better because the old box spring I had was worn out.

once I had some serious back pain going....I played a lot of golf and thought maybe that was it.... then I somehow realized that maybe it was because my mattress basically was caved in to the floor almost, lol.....so I started sleeping ON THE FLOOR...the only "cushion" was a little on eince "egg crate" (or eggshell?) piece of foam.

Fixed my back straight up no problem.

I would think that "better too firm than too soft"....think of the thousands of years peeps slept of dirt floors etc, lol....now we all think we have to have all this crazy thick cushioning. (so what if those people back then died at 46....thats beside the point)

So... are you voting to get the bed or keep the boxspring?

I dunno, lol....I thought you were asking if it would be too hard without the spring...as far as "losing support"....to me of its a little harder it is more supportive (to a point)

I had put a mattress in a waterbed frame and slept on that for quite some time. My back hurt laying on that, and it hurt laying on the waterbed frame. It hurts laying on my mattress and boxspring with a layer of eggcrate foam.

I think I'm just going to ditch it all, and just stack some dirt and hay in the corner of my room

I think you are talking about a "platform" bed---
a bed/boxspring pair are engineered to work in tandem with one another, if you replace the boxspring with a platform bed's rigid surface the feel will be alot different – like mentioned before generally firmer and less resilient...

Sorry.. maybe I should have been more clear. My thinking is that it'll be less supportive, less firm without the boxspring.

Keep the bed, you will have plenty of support w/o the boxspring

Being in the military barracks, we don't have fancy things like box springs...with the newish mattress I have, it's perfect for me, plenty of support. My roommate really likes firm beds - with our old mattresses we had (totally worn out), he actually took a piece of plywood to put between the bed and mattress....I think you'll be fine.
