Real video of a non-typical traffic stop

Warning: it's a 12 minute streaming real video. All cursing is bleeped. The video is fairly poor, and the audio is a bit scratchy, but you should be able to see what happens pretty well enough.

From what I understand, the cop wasn't fired or punished in any way other than "reassigned".

here's a follow-up article: http://archives.oklahoman.com/cgi-bi...IN_1346839.txt

My comments: I do not have any problems with law enforcement in general. For the most part, I highly respect them. Unfortunately, any system has their bad apples. I'm not fully aware of the situation, but that video is pretty damning!

Yeah, the 21 year old kid should have followed directions much better, on the other hand, he really sounded spooked. Of course, with her attitude, I don't blame him.

I think she should have called for backup before it got to the point of her shooting him in the back!

Supposedly, he was going back to the truck to find his insurace papers. That is the wrong thing to do! She can't assume that he didn't have a gun in the truck. But he was un-armed and a good 3-4 strides from the door of his truck when she shot him.

What really disgusted me about the whole thing was her attitude though-out the event more than her shooting him in the back. Cursing up a storm, then turning around and telling him to watch his language. She was definitely on a power trip.

What are your comments?

I'd side w/ the youth on this one.

he did not act exactly as he should have... however... her actions from the very start were atrocious.

I do not know the nature of his injuries... but if he is disabled as a result of being shot, fair compensation would be justified.

Regardless, the officer should lose her job.

link worked fine for me BTW.

neo do you have real player installed?

the first thing that bothered me is her cussing while shes trying to pull him over. i understand hes wasnt doing it but listening to her starting off gave me a bad feeling.

second if she felt so threaten i didnt not once hear her call for back up.

and it took her about 6 and a half minutes to finally put him in he back of the car if she felt so threaten. She kepted asking him if he was under the influence and finally about 8 minutes she finally start testing him.

also about 10 minutes she tell him to watch is language but i counted over 6 times with her using foul language. very unprofessional IMHO

11 minutes she starts to threat him to shoot him, this is where mace and the night stick come in to play. YOU DO NOT THREATEN SOMEONE LIKE THAT. and still she did not call for back up that i could hear.

she shot and didnt even call for help until 12:41 seconds

The language was uncalled for. However, I dont think what she did was outrageous. The guy cant just walk away from an officer when being told certain directions. Did the officer get in trouble for this incident?

Disturbing...

Although - What was his huge beef with following directions? I would have done pretty much anything just to get her to shut her face.

GZ3 yes i do have RP installed.
Rather than a RP link can someone also post a link to the site where the movie is at and maybe i can access it via that way instead of it auto turning on my real player without option to save as. doesn't give me that option just goes there rather than asking me if i want to download it.

Ouch... I would have been scared being either person. Tough call. I dont envy the police officer her job, but she did seem to be tripping and unpredictable (not consistent with her attitude or authority, poor training possibly?). But, drunk or sober, he did not listen and placed himself and her in an unsure situation that neither reacted well to. Tough call! Not a position I would like to find myself in...

I echo some of GZ's inquiries about other methods of non-lethal interaction (pepper spray, baton, etc) as well as her lack of requesting backup. As soon as she felt the situation was escalating (or herself), possibly she should have requested backup. I dont know... so many unknown variables when ya are alone and dealing with a situation, a potentially deadly situation. Training... more training, maybe, hehe. Scarey.
