Rebates! Honesty doesn't pay.

If you saw the piece on 60 Minutes on the outsourcing of "service", you won't be surprised at this. Having endured four weeks of non service from DELL in India, I was expecting the worse when "joseph" identified himself when I tried to get a Staples rebate straightened out. It was rejected but the reject was for an item I had not sent in. After a thirty minute wait, another fifteen trying to get the person to understand the problem, I stupidly told him NO it is not a 30 rebate, just ten. That took another twenty minutes before he could figure out how not to give me 30.! Next time I'll take whatever they offer for payment of my time.

I've worked on a helpdesk before, he might have been new at his job. Unless you've worked on a helpdesk you don't know what it's like, day after day of getting stupid people asking stupid questions to you. And when you are new you are treated as if you know everything there is to know about the job, it took me two weeks to get confident enough at my job.

Sure enough, it can be annoying when you don't get what you want in the allocated time, but patience is a virtue, and a good one to have.
