Do you have a Sony NetMD ?

I just bought the MZ-N710.

Does anyone know if I can copy music from the PC to the MD Player without using the included software?

Thanks.

Yes, I believe RealPlayer can be used for this purpose. Look around and you'll find some mini-disc forums where they discuss this stuff.

I know MD1032 has one of these things but he uses the included software. You could PM him for ideas.

i just bought one too..however i'm not 100% familiar with it..but like osprey said, i think you can use real player in that instance.
thus far i've just used the included software, especially when going straight from a cd to the player.
i have the MZ-S1...let me know what you find out!

I'm not happy with certain restrictions that could come up in the future. I'll be on the look out for alternative software and ill keep everyone informed.

Certain restrictions? Why don't you share with the class?

I found some good communities discussing alternative software and methods of increasing SonicStage's ablities as far as amount of Check-Outs are concerned.

I wasnt happy with the fact that you can only check out a track 3 times.

But it seems all you have to do to get around this limitation is to delete the files SonicStage uses to keep track of the MusicDrive and check-out/ins.

SS keeps this information in a Microsoft Access database that is usually located in the "C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\sony corporation\sonicstage\packages" folder.

2. You can easily remove all record of the music you have imported into SS (including the check-out counter) by deleting the contents of the folder listed above. I also created a batch file that will do this for you (on Win2K & XP) that is located here. Now the next time you start SS it will say it cannot find the database and will create a new one. You can once again start fresh and import songs as need. Any record of songs you 'Checked-Out' is gone!
I have not tried this yet, and I am not responsible for any damage caused to any system as a result of using these instructions
