Systems car starts and dies w/ no code (55)

Well I guess I should start by saying the car has run fine no problems and sounds like a normal dodge... I am in school and we bought this car knowing it had a couple of problems (most important one is it needs valve cover gasket and does have a leak that we have been paying really close attention to) (oh and in case you didn't catch it being in school=pretty much no money or close too)... Anyway, it is a 1996 intrepid with way to many miles (160,000)...

Got up this morning and went to start the car & it starts, even revs up a bit but then it dies. Ran the codes and nothing comes up (well specifically 55 end code)... The only thing that seems out of the "normal scope" is that there is a ticking noise coming from somewhere around the fuses (yes we checked the fuses themselves)... Dodge guy down the street said it was "the code" but it pulsates more like a blinker continues with no pauses... After the code was ran though the lights flashed with the same (I want to say rythem but can't spell it!) time....

We are thinking fuel pump? but at the same time it doesn't quite seem right, any ideas are welcome....

The clicking noise could very well be a fuel pump. My dad had a similar problem with his 1989 F-250. The problem with that was there was two fuel pumps [one in tank, one on chassis]. It actually made more of a buzzing sound. It would start up, but conk out right away. Its a possibility that its a pump anyway...

1. Fuel pump going bad....
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Relay problem (fuel circuit) might explain noise

Could be anything. This is a "my computer doesn't work."

Besides what Cruez surmises, it could be something lose.

so with this security in place you have to "unlock" your car 3 times each and every time now?

I guess the it works this way in the pre-1997's- the new ones will act like there is no battery and have nothing whereas mine started but then shut off (don't quote me on the dates) but the ONLY think that makes the headlights strobe (with that the car will not continue to run) is the security... I don't know if it is this way in other years but the 96 if you lock the doors one way (with key verse with remote) you have to unlock the doors the same way! Otherwise the car thinks it is being solen! lol

Sorry I am so exited that it is fixed I totally messed up that reply! My car (1996 intrepid) came with the normal security... NO it doesn't have to be done everytime only if the system has been "tripped"... I tripped it because me SO locked the doors with the remote & I unlocked the door with the key... Must be a glitch but for these cars it is normal

I have a '98 Ford Escourt that does the same thing. If I do not use the remote to unlock the drivers door the alarme triggers.
