Sirius Radio
I recently bought a Chysler PT Cruiser - a fun ride - and a Sirius satellite radio was part of the deal. The radio is great with plenty of commercial free channels to pick from, but the antenna is a flat black bump just forward of the hatchback and defines the word ugly. I thought about painting it to match the car color but I remembered back when I was in the military that many aircraft had natural fiberglass antennas that couldn't be painted. So I e-mailed Sirius and they said that the antennas should not be painted. Now I'm wondering why. I can see that there might be a problem with a lead based paint or a zinc chromate primer like we used back in the F-4 days, but modern paints don't contain heavy metals. I guess that I can live with the black antenna, but a "why" would make it a little easier. Surely one of my friends here can come up with a reason.
