Kodak to Stop Selling Film Cameras in U.S.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,108286,00.html

Quote:
Eastman Kodak Co. (EK) Tuesday said it will stop selling traditional film cameras in the United States, Canada and Western Europe, another move by the photography company to cut lines with declining appeal in favor of fast-growing digital products.

With sales of digital cameras poised to overtake film cameras for the first time this year, Kodak is redefining itself in an effort to keep pace.
Quite a suprising move!

While its fairly inevitable, I'm shocked they're dumping it so fast
I imagine there's a number of people that will cry the day they can't find a film camera in a common photography store.

Might be a smart move, however, I would be inclined to leave a few of the upper end cameras on the market for at least a few more years.

so far the answer has been no.....but Im not sure about super high end digital etc.

As far as cheap (uhh, well mine is a 3.2m Minolta Dimage XT..the little tiny one)...as far as cheap or standard digital cameras....you can almost forget action photography....becasue of the little time lag between pressing the button and when it actually takes the pic......but the other advangtages of digital just KILL.....I remember the old days...you take some pics....having no clue about the quality...u get home..u send em off...maybe they come back, lol....maybe overexposed...maybe half the shots themselves sucked (closed eyes etc)....with digital you can look and see what you have right there..then edit it, print it out in 2 shakes etc.

Absolutely not...not even close.

I've yet to see a digital camera that can match the resolution of my ordinary 4" x 5" camera...there is precious little you can do with a digital in terms of lighting... the darn things either use available light, or they direct-flash. And that's okay for snapshots, but you don't get to create with light.

OTOH, you can't beat 'em for getting something up on the 'net, or being able to send a pic in an e-mail. So I guesss it depends on what you want a camera to do!

I think until they get a better CCD technology, like S3, working, film cameras will still be where all the good stuff comes from.
