Westborro Baptist Church paid us a little visit

As many of you know, i'm a student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. i thought i had seen it all when it comes to radical conservatism until a few days ago when Westborro Baptist Church from kansas decided to pay us a little visit concerning, among other things, our women's basketball team.

WARNING!!! these flyers contain STRONG language, namely anti-homosexual slang that is not appropriate for children.

this is not an attempt to say whether homosexuality is right or not, we've got enough threads covering this already so please try and avoid that subject. i just can't believe that there are people this hateful out there, especially people who call themselves christians. I have asked permission from the mods to post this and to keep an eye on it and in so i ask all of you to keep this civil otherwise i WILL ask to have this thread locked if the mods don't do it first!

Ah, yes, the unspeakable "Reverend" Fred Phelps. I've posted practically nothing about him and his church, for fear that it would be considered anti-Christian; but it's only anti-bigoted-nut-case.

very very good quote osprey4. it fits the situation perfectly! i also find it amusing that a church's website was blocked by websense, and i can't blame it. when i first read that flyer i was in shock almost that this was coming from a church. and agreed theo, i believe it is groups like this that really give christians a bad name and personally i don't think they deserve to be called christians. bigoted-nut-case is about the most they deserve IMHO. and yes it made me want to hurl too, especially since it is my own school they are talking about!

Idiots. Fringe extremists who thrive on shock publicity exist on both sides discussed many times here. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. Sorry to hear your campus is being targeted by living definitive proof of bigotry. Get the authorities involved.

and it's "all or nothing" with people of extremist views. I'll bet the children and neighbors of this group live in fear, for they might be "different" and therefore subject to ridicule or worse should they not conform.

I find the flyers and websites truly offensive myself. I am disappointed that a group like this is able to drag down other churches, particularly baptist with such garbage. God does not hate gay people.
