The COLORS of FLIGHT
New Gov't plan to 'Color-Code' airlinr passangers by this Summer.
Here's how I hear it works:
Stage One: You give your name and DOB to match against You.
Stage Two: Gov't compares your Name to its records--both overt abd covert.
On the basis of the foregoing, You are assihgned a Color:
GREEN: OK to Fly.
YELLOW: You get put through a thourough screening (at Airport?).
RED: You are "grounded".
I can foresee people losing their jobs, reputations,and having their "Flying Colors" reviewed by perspective employers etc.
Like all information, when it is compilied for no matter how well-meaning a reason, it can be put to what use anybody who gets ahold of it wants to. And that can change.
Those of you who were around on 9/11 aftermath, when I posted Reports from NYC, may remember my anger at these events and the failure to adequately defend us from such an outrage.
My GF came home with debris from the WTC still in her hair.
But this seem st to me to be a silly procedure, that will only add to the 'State of Seige' mentality and lower the bar on further incursions of privacy.
Put more bluntly, covert information should be used covertly--rather than denying prospective travelers from getting ticketsRED --either on making reservations--or screening others extrathoroughly ((YELLOW).
FullDisclosure: The above is what I heard on TV news about the proposed Color-coding system; therefore, important details should be confirmed as I can not vouch for its veracity at this point.
What has always amazed me is how easy it is to board a flight at any US airport without suffifficient interaction with personnel trained to spot abberant behaviour.
If you try to walk into even a near empty bar in NYC someone will ask, "Can I help you?" This is to screen out pre-drunk patrons and people coming in with a significant edge on their shoulders.
There should be at least a brief face-to-face interview for all perspective passengers. Also, it probably would be best to cut-off all booze sales in the air.
As for "Screening-by-the-Colors, well, its an idea...like a bad idea.
