H. Dean covert K.K.K.????
Quote: |
DES MOINES, Iowa — Under fire in a campaign debate, Howard Dean conceded grudgingly Sunday night that he never named a black or Latino to his cabinet during nearly 12 years as governor of Vermont.
| HERE!!! Quote: |
"It seems as though you discovered blacks and browns during this campaign," Sharpton said.

I really don't see it as that big of a deal... Black and Hispanic/Latino people make up a combined 1.4% of Vermont's population.

You are saying that the only reason to be on the cabinet is because you are a minority is absolutely ridiculous.
I say the most qualified be they black white green or purple muslim jew christian budhist or whatever should get the job.
The black population of Vermont is .5% the hispanic is .9% the people below poverty level is 9.4% so he should have appointed a poor person first then a hispanic then a black. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/50000.html |

The simple fact that Sharpton is the one saying it really destroys any chance of it having significance. Notice how readily he plays the race card? His campaign has no plan of action and he has no real argument for why he should be party leader. His only chance is to attack the credibility of those who oppose him (just like what Arnold did).

Sharpton is just comic relief in an otherwise frustrating race. |

If walliex put as much energy into helping the poor as he does to posting threads trashing Dean on TIMO, America would be a better society.

[/sarcasm]Wallie X, I'm appaled at your decision to post this [/sarcasm]
Everyone knows it's okay to play the race card only if you're a democrat accusing the republicans. Republicans have to abide by all the trivialties the democrats bring up, but the demos can do whatever they want.
And if any of us put as much energy into anything as say, watching TV, or eating, or posting at TIMO, the world would be a better place, your analogy is unfounded. For all we know, he works for salvation army.

According to the Vermont Minority Health home page, Quote: |
The 2000 Census estimates the minority population of Vermont to be 3.2% (19,248). Of this group, 7,962 are males, 18 and older, who identify as: being of more than one race (2,338); Hispanic (1,753); Asian (1,483); Black (1,071); Native American/Indian (857); or other (393) .
| In other words, there just aren't many minorities in Vermont. I believe Dean's cabinet consisted of six members. Proportional minority representation would require about one tenth of an African-American and one-eight of a Hispanic. If, of course, you believe in quotas. Somehow, I don't think wallie_x does.
Nor do I take seriously accusations of racism from coming from Al Charlatan (oops - Sharpton), the only active racist in the campaign in either party. Sharpton, the defender of the racist murderer Lemrick Nelson? Sharpton, the convicted libeller of Stephen Pagones in the Tawana Brawley fraudulent rape case? Sharpton, buddy of Louis Farrakhan? Give me a break.

From Fanatical Apathy: Quote:
Back in Vermont, an enraged black community welcomed Sharpton's words as finally exposing a long-ignored problem.
"I don't know if I'd say I was 'enraged,' " fumed local civil rights activist Reginald Coldpeck, "and I'm not really much of a civil rights activist. See, I'm a science teacher, so I don't think I'd want the job. And my wife's a veterinarian. Maybe you could ask that guy in Burlington if HE wants the job."
In Burlington, there were echoes of the Coldpeck's rage. "Honestly, this is no big deal," said Bryan Cummings. "Maybe I coulda used the job back in '97 when I was unemployed, but I'd question whether my background in custom-made furniture would make me qualified."
Shockingly, most of Vermont's other black residents have been intimidated into silence over this issue. Cummings had a theory as to why: "Seriously, it's just me and that couple in Bennington, there's no other black people here," he explained, voicing the anger of a silenced population.
Back in Bennington, fully 2/3rds of the state's black population turned out to march towards the state house to protest their former governor's racially explosive policy.
"Really, my wife and I are just heading to the mall, it's not a march," fumed Reginald Coldpeck. "In fact, could you please leave us alone?" Even through their rage, the march was conducted peacefully, with quiet, wounded dignity.
