Spoiled Teenager in Daddy's Beemer + Flatbed Truck = Bad Day

So here I am driving home from a movie. I am going about 47 or so (speed limit was 40) with a guy in a F-250 XLT following me as well.

The road is going from two lanes to one lane and the right lane was the lane that was going to close. Apparently the kid in the Beemer didn't want to be stuck behind a truck that was already speeding. The guy in the truck wasn't tailgating me, but he was driving close enough where the kid in the Beemer didn't have a chance when he tried to split in between us. I saw what the kid in the beemer was going to do and accelerated (to try to avoid disaster), alas, it didn't do any good.

The kid was running out of real estate and made his move - Right into the opposite lane into a big truck. The guy driving the F-250 apparently bumped him just enough where the kid lost control and went into the opposite lane.

The moral of the story? Dad should have given the kid a set of keys to a Geo Metro, instead of a 2003 BMW.

The cops had a blast with this one; well the cops that were writing the story down. This kid is going to get shafted for reckless driving and some other silly things. The other police officers weren't as happy. They were out there cleaning pieces of car up from the street. The kid driving the Beemer is just fine, but his dad's insurance won't be doing very well.

*EDIT* I guess this was all good for me, because there was a cop sitting up the street in the construction zone, waiting for people to drive by. He said he clocked me going well over the speed limit and was waiting for me to drive by, but he heard the loud crash.

I guess or hope the kid learned about the, "Leave a margin for error" rule.

My Beemer will do 140mph+ but only if there is no one else in the car and no other cars in site. Good tires, control arms and great brakes. Great ride!

Cheers!

Unfortunately, the ability to buy a car and the ability to drive a car are different things. Perhaps Daddy will use more discretion in the future.

Glad you're Ok, Mike.
