Gay “Big Brothers”?

Would you want your child under the guidence of a gay person?
Quote:
It’s a brave new world at your local Big Brothers-Big Sisters office. As of this month, the Big Brothers-Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) will require that all 500 of its local affiliates include active homosexuals as volunteers and mentors to children. Many parents who support Big Brothers-Big Sisters may be surprised to learn that their child could soon be paired with a gay or lesbian mentor. In fact, parents whose children are enrolled in the organization’s school-based programs will not even be told when their son or daughter is matched with a gay man or a lesbian woman.

Cheers!

Most people have probably left their children in the care of a homosexual on a number of occasions.

How are you to know if anyone other than yourself is a homosexual? Is that a question you'd ask the babysitter?

Shouldn't the Big Brothers org have to divulge all info on the potential Big Brother/Sister. After all. What would they have to hide? Shouldn't it be up to the parent, "who" is with their child? Big Brother/Sister is not a "baby sitter" organization. These are volunteers that will take young Bobby/Sally out for the day and answer any questions posed. They are a roll models. Parents I'm sure, will want to retain the right to decide who is with their children at any time and for what ever reason.

Cheers!

Well, my babysitter was a role model, too. I spent a lot of time with babysitters, and was more than likely influenced by them in numerous respects. That's just to be expected.

Maybe the Big Brother/Big Sister organizations ARE required to divulge all of their information about their volunteers. The question is, are the volunteers required to divulge their sexual orientation? Should they be? (I already know your answer.)

Either way, many homosexual volunteers may be in the "closet" and may not be truthful when asked what their sexual orientation is. And ironically, that's the fault of folk such as yourself.

If I were a parent, which I'm not, I would obviously prefer that my son or daughter be paired with someone whose sexual interests swayed in the opposite direction. But, as I've implied above - whether or not would actually be a possibility (to control what individual your child is paired with) is another story...

I'm hoping to hear from parents on this one as they have the vested interest in a child.

Cheers!

Well, I'm a parent, straight, and have had gay friends.
They are people, just like you or me.
If I knew someone well enough (I trust very few people with my kids), it would not (and has not) mattered if they where gay.

I gotta say, though, with the threads you are posting, you are obviously a homophobe in the first degree.

The homosexual friends I have are people that have the best morals and attitude to life that I know. I'd gladly let them watch my children if I had any.

I don't think that it matters whether they are gay or not, as long as they are a good rolemodel.

theres a difference between a homosexual and a pedophile, and contrary to popular belief, homosexuality isnt some disease that spreads to others.

i honestly dont see what the big fuss is about

You are exactly right. Someone being gay doesn't make them a pedophile, or a pervert, or mentally ill in any way.
There is no big deal.
It's just a very few ignorant people, like the originator of all these anti-gay threads trying to spread fear and hate.
