Obscure terrorists: update

Just reminding you that they aren't all named Abdul or Ibrahim. But if they aren't, you won't see much about them...
Quote:
In the wake of Sept. 11, there is concern that homegrown terrorists may be operating under the federal radar.

"It's scary when you look at the capabilities, look at the vulnerabilities of our society," says former FBI agent Danny Coulson. "We don't have to concern ourselves so much with only foreign terrorists, but we need to concern ourselves with domestic terrorists too, and these guys are dangerous."

Also unsettling is the fact that Krar and the others have refused to cooperate with authorities. If they did have a target for terror planned, they will likely take it to prison when they're sentenced next month.

White, Christian home-grown terrorists won't fit in with the constructed image of the dark skinned, ineloquent, bearded and primitive 'enemy'.

After all orientalists have not been hard at work for the past 200 years for no reason.

Where's it say he's Christian?

While I do not deny that the Christian faith has extremist groups, they are extremely rare. Parts of the KKK claim to be a religious group and base their beliefs on the idea that the Bible talks of "beast of the fields". They say that since the Bible routinely talks of animals by name, and often uses the terms animals and beast of the fields to describe different creations in the same context that this somehow means that the beasts of the field are people of color.
How did I come by this tidbit of info? I worked on a construction crew in HS where one of the framers was a member. He tried (very unsuccessfully) to recruit me into this cult.

Dave,

I did not mean that he is Christian. I meant that you would never see the media interest concerning any "...White, Christian home-grown terrorists..." as you do see concerning dark skinned, non-Christian and foreign ones.

I was merely underlyning the latter part of Theos opening statement.

So far the only weapons of mass destruction, Cyanide bombs, were found in Texas.

And I saw this morning on CNN HLN that Bush has sent home the WMD's search crews. But they continue to examine documents in an effort to allow daveleau the oportunity to say "I told you so!"

Washington -- The Bush administration has quietly withdrawn from Iraq a 400-member military team whose job was to scour the country for military equipment, according to senior government officials.

The step was described by some military officials as a sign that the administration might have lowered its sights and no longer expected to uncover the caches of chemical and biological weapons that the White House cited as a principal reason for going to war last March.

...Iraq Survey Group, which has been searching Iraq for more that seven months at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars. But that team is "still waiting for something to dispose of," said a survey group member.
Government officials said Wednesday that he had not reached a decision, but that both he and his top deputy, Maj. Gen. Keith Dayton of the Defense Intelligence Agency, were in Washington, in part to discuss what direction the hunt should take.
Next step? Is it a far reach to suggest that some will be planted? I personally don't think it is a far reach given the mind-set of this administration and quite frankly surprised it hasn't already been attempted. I mean, after all, Bush knows his die-hard supports like daveleau and J-excel would swallow it hook line and sinker and would dance around singing, "Na na nu na na".

And with not a shred of proof Bush haters will say it was planted.

The Poor Man makes an interesting point:
Quote:
I'm sorry, did you say "prison"? Is the government's final answer going to be that they "have refused to cooperate"? This is our tough new approach to terrorism? In what possible fashion is this less disturbing than Jose Padilla, the dirty-bombless "dirty bomber", who we've held for two years without charges?
