Systems Thoughts/Prayers needed

I just got laid off from my job of 10 years and this is the first time in over 25 years that I've been unemployed. I have a wife and a son to support, and, of course, it's right after Christmas and the bills are pretty heavy.

Any good thoughts, prayers or leads (I'm a Real Estate Appraiser) are appreciated.

Sorry to hear that Tom. That really comes at a bad time. I don't have any leads but lots of prayers to you and your family. All the best to you!

Quite often situations like this turn out for the better. I know a lot of people that went on to better jobs after being laid off. Good luck on your job search, and I hope the best for you and your family.

Sorry to hear Tom.

Sounds like you have been a very good employee. Someone will hire you. Until then, file for unemployment ASAP. There is usually a waiting period until your first check.

After that, your new job is finding a job. If you work your new job 9-5, with an hour lunch, it won't take long. Hang tough, it will all work out.

Best Wishes,

Robert

Im not real "up" on real estate terms and jobs etc.....but arent their usually about 10 million real estate "brokers" or "agencies" in town?? Surely you can get on at another place....? And actually it looks pretty well like the economy itself is picking up.....probably after a little discomfort (looking around etc) you will end up better than you were before!

Yup, my new job is finding a job.

John, that's a whole 'nother field, sales and all. Different set of licenses and everything. Appraising is determining the value of a given chunk of real estate. Usually it's pretty recession proof, but things have been slow since the refinance boom ended a month or two back. Further, I do commercial real estate mostly and there has been some friction between myself and the boss over the last couple of years, nothing I seemed to be able to do anything about. When they ask for your key and disconnect your email address, that don't look good.

My field is slow all over, so maybe studying for a sales license might be a way to go, if I had the bucks

Thanks one and all, and I'll keep ya posted. If you see me pop up in the Traders forums with a bunch of stuff for sale, you'll know why

Wow Tom, that's bad news. Hang in there my friend. I know you will find something. Don't forget all the networking you've done over the years, put some feelers out, and hit your competition. Feel up the big commercial sellers you've dealt with for leads.. Or perhaps become your X-bosses competition.
I'll pray for you.

Alright Tommy Boy...when the going gets tough! Sorry to hear about your situation, especially with the family and all...

Take the advice of the others here and at least get that unemployment going...hey, money is money my friend.

In the meantime, we'll be pulling for you...if there's anything we can do, don't hesitate to ask ya hear?!

In my thoughts...

Mike
