Under age drinking
What do you think about it. Should we lower the legal age to 18?
I think its kinda stupid when high schoolers go out and drink.

It was 18 a few years back. (Well, many years back). I think the United States has one of the highest ages in the world, yet we still have kids drinking and what not.
I think the age should be dropped to 18, but every state should switch to a zero tolerance policy. (Well, a .002 policy). |

i agree with mike, i think it should be lowered to 18. basically i feel that once you are an adult then you should have that right. And another thing is that people say "those people will just go wild with it and not know how to control it". well here's my thoughts (coming from personal experience), whenever you first start drinking you have no idea how to control it, so it doesn't matter what age you start, you're still going to have issues with it for a while. also if the drinking age is 18 then a lot of people will be able to start drinking while still in high school (hear me out, i think this is a good thing). obviously school's should have a zero tolerance policy for being drunk/drinking at school, BUT this allows people to first learn about alcohol while living with their parents who will be there to help them (kinda like driving).
i also like the lower alcohol blood level idea. 0.07 is enough so that i think i would have troubles driving.although .002 is too low for error's sake. maybe .02 tho |

Those reasons rank right up there with what I heard recently when the province I lived in danced with the idea of lowering our drinking age from 19 to 18 - which was that more students might be inclined to go to University here if the drinking age was similiar to other provinces with drinking ages of 18.
IMO - If you're choosing post-secondary institutions based on the local drinking age, you've got some major issues. |

here it's 16 for beer, 18 for the rest (burnt things or soft drinks etc.)
to be honest i never drank beer, it just smells terrible.
but 14 year old kids change their school-ID to get beer, it's kind of sick, what is so good about it? does it make you look cool? same about smoking, it's just stupid

Well, just because the drinking age is 21 doesn't mean they won't learn their lessons.
Lowering it to 18 under the premise that it's so that people can experiment and try it (therefore, encouraging it) at a younger age probably isn't the best idea. Not only is it not the best idea - it's an excuse that people who would oppose the idea would laugh hysterically at.
