looking for free online bill paying
hey all,
i recently dropped my citibank account and switched to washington mutual because i was told they offer free online banking. well i misunderstood and though they meant online bill pay as well which they dont offer for free. yahoo USED to offer it for free but doesnt anymore. ive done searches and it seems with alot of them you need an account with the bank you are signing up with online. all i want to do is sign up with my checking account # of course. anyone have any sites/suggestions? TIA

yeah bofa.com is one of the many i know that offers it for free, but you have to sign up and open an account with them, get an atm card, etc. i just went through that with washington mutual. guess there is no way to sign up with my own account from MY bank. come to think of it, that would be stupid, they want your business so of course youd have to open an account. guess ill have to go through the motions.

Not online banking! Online bill paying. Most institutions charge something like $5-$10 per month for this.

Huntington Bank has a free online billpay with two types of checking accounts.
One is the Money Manager, but don't remember what the other is.
I think they are both the kind where you need to keep a large balance inorder to get it for free. ($500-1,000?)

BoA (Bank of America) does it, but it doesn't do it for all companies. I was very disappointed with their service in this regard. I could only pay 2 of my many bills online through them. I recently moved to LA, where there are no BoAs. So, I had to switch to Bank One. Bank One's online bill pay will pay to any company as long as you give them an address and an account number. It is very convenient. I can pay everything except for my rent on Bank One. You do have to have an account there, but you could always set up a small account and just use it for bills online and not worry about the atm card and such. I have had no fees applied to my checking acct so far.

That's weird, I can pay all my bills online for free with TD Canada Trust, but that's Canada.
They actually have all the companies that I have to pay to. No way would I pay to pay my bills online!

Check into credit unions and see if you can join one. Mine offers the service no charge, plus everything else is either no charge or cheaper.
I never thought I'd like on line bill paying, but I'm totally ok with it. I do not allow on-line billing tho...
Hope this helps.
