Fighting Fish Threatens National Security
A Christmas tale of a pet fish versus the Transportation Security Administration. Quote:
I was led back to the US Airways ticket counter, stocking-footed and alone, where the agents reasserted that they did not see a problem for me to have a fish on board, properly packaged in plastic fish bag and secured with a rubber band as MJ was. But the TSA supervisor was called over, and he berated me profusely. He exclaimed that in no way, under no circumstances, was a small fish allowed to pass through security, regardless of what the ticket agents said.
Mr. Supervisor was causing a grand scene, marshaling the full authority of the TSA to refuse me. Now, I know my fish is a terrorist (Osama Fin Laden we used to call him back at school), but doesn't it strike you as funny that, with all the commotion my little security threat was causing, by now engaging the full attention of the TSA at LaGuardia, that someone who posed a real threat to passenger safety might be conveniently slipping by?

Interesting, yet sad story. "Meanwhile... As the guy with two grenades in his pocket and an AK-47 in his bag happily boards the plane."

& this is the mentality that is securing our airports?
Is this a novelty?
or does this merit concern, since our trusted servants govern our country?
Just my ramblings {$0.02} |

No its not a novelty. It is their mentality to remove "everything that may be used as a weapon" from anyone boarding a plane. That includes toenail clippers, Pipe cleaners, nail files, ETC.
They should be told that a sufficiently motivated person can- er maybe they shouldnt be told that a motivated person would be able to do any damage he(or she) wants, up to and including bringing down any plane bare handed. I figure they would want to tie peoples hands up while riding on the plane.
I honestly believe that the question is moot now. NOT ONE OF THE PASSENGERS would allow a plane to be hijacked now that its guaranteed to be used to destroy buildings and kill everyone on board. Anyone attempting that would have the passengers revolt the moment the passengers found out what is going on.

Amazing how some people will behave once they get some Authority: Quote: |
He (the supervisor) exclaimed that in no way, under no circumstances, was a small fish allowed to pass through security, regardless of what the ticket agents said.

I'm kind of with vern on this.
I don't care of you are packing an Uzi, a bomb, 3 knives, and a can of mace. I just don't see another plane being successfully hijacked in the near future.
This is all a knee-jerk reaction that does absolutely nothing to provide security.
