Can THIS MicroWave Be Saved? da CAAT Wants to Know.

CAAT speaking, and Happy Holidays to All !

Our microwave started to make this cracking sound, like plastic cracking, awhile ago. Couldn't see anything wrong and don't think it was the sound of the food cooking . . . Then yesterday was heating a cup of tea . . . I hit the button for "1 minute" and after twenty seconds I hit stop 'cause that's all it needed and the second I hit stop, all power went out. Nothing on LED. I thought maybe a fuse had blown. Any ideas? Thanks much guys . . . I'll really have a problem if this Doog doesn't get fed.

There is a fuse inside, but the crackling sound doesn't sound promising. You can try replacing the fuze, but if it blows again . . . . it's time to replace the microwave.

I lost one a couple years ago, the shop wanted $50 up front, just to look at it. Then told me it would cost ~$150 more to fix it.

you can replace pretty much all the components of a microwave fairly easily but if the plastic is cracked then you might get some em radiation leakage related problems if you can get it working

Ditto on the fuse. Probably a waste of time, though - both times we've had the crackling sound from one, it turned out to be the magnetron tube - the most expensive component, thus cost prohibitive.
Last time, the repair would have been about a hundred MORE than the cost of a comparable new unit... and it wasn't a "cheapie"!!

If you replace the fuse and it works, try heating water in a clear glass container. Eliminates potential sounds. If it still crackles, plan on a new one shortly, and leave it unplugged when not in use.

Yes, there is a problem.

That'll be ten bucks.

We did NOT buy it from buy.com --the Vendor that purportedly charges $9.95 to actually speak to its Customer.Service which otherwise takes only e-Mails.

Hey ! I didn't even speak to you !
mental telepathy don't count

And we DID throw it away !

I thinking of one of those SHARP cube-like MW's that are in a translucent MAC-like case and pretty colors, like black.. About 14-16" cube.

Anybody have one of them gizmo's ?

We just wannna heat stuff like leftovers --not fullturkeys which squawk too much. Maybe 500 --700W power...defrost setting...

ThanX, DOOOG
