RIAA loses in court, isp's need not provide names...

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20031219/D7VHI7400.html

The appeals judges said they sympathized with the recording industry, noting that "stakes are large." But the judges said it was not the role of courts to rewrite the 1998 copyright law, "no matter how damaging that development has been to the music industry or threatens being to the motion picture and software industries."

Good!! They were getting too much power. There's enforcement of copyrights and then there's running past the line you shouldn't cross and not even looking back.

You mean someone found three judges who think they're role is only to interpret the law and the constitution?

Amazing!

Hanalleujah! Not only has my spelling reached abysmal levels, but the RIAA just failed a major court case!

I wonder if those judges are file sharers themselves.

The ruling may stand. The District of Columbia Federal Appeals ain't the Ninth! The DC is very conservative!

Is it rewriting copywrite laws or enforcing laws.

It is illegal to steal.

it is illegal to copy copywrited material for others.

People doing such are performing a criminal act.

As such are subject to investigations.

They are doing it in a public medium (the www) I believe that they should be tracked down and jailed, fined, and generally punished.

The RIAA won't quit in court though. They'll keep flooding the court systems, until they get it their way. The more they get denied, the harder they will try.
