apology to Surreal and Mike and Im out....
This is in response to an issue last week where Mike posted a thread about the somewhat serious happenings in his neighborhood. I posted up a totally tongue in cheek joke and evidently Mike and others were offended....so I apologize for it.
The post was replied to in a joking way by another member or two. And evidently other people besides Mike were offended by it all.
My post was deleted and I was given a very strong warning with the nice pink writing by Surreal...but..do to the caching issue of the forum, I had posted again (twice I think) before I ever saw the warning or the fact that my post and others had been deleted. And another member and myself were joking back and forth TOTALLY in a light hearted manner....almost like inside jokes remaining from other threads. But of course with the caching thing it looked like I intentionally disrespected and ignored her warning...but thats not what happened at all.
So I am also issuing this public apology to Surreal if she felt embarrassed etc in any way since it looked like I had just blatantly disrespected her.
I was a little surprised by the strength of the warning since I hadnt recieved a warning before and to me the warning sounded like I was some sort of known troublemaker....so she pm'ed me with several other threads in different forums where my sense of humour was evidently not appreciated.
Besides which, you all know I am a born again Christian and although most of you dont believe in God etc, you still like to hold us Christians up to that highest standard dont you...and thats ok by me cuz thats the way it is supposed to be and I am quite comfortable with it. It should also be easy to see that God himself allows things like the caching issue to keep people like myself in line.
So of course I got banned from community for, I dunno, the last 5 days or something. Im not really mad about that...I think it is funny in a way because of the caching issue and the way that worked out.
Well, I have posted some serious issues myself in this forum and recieved some, uhh, interesting replies to my threads also....but if my replies, opinions and humour are causing enough hard feelings and such that I need to be banned, then so be it....my simple solution is to stop posting in the community forum altogether. Easy clean fix.
The hard thing is that now even in tech threads I have to double think everything I say since what I consider to be light hearted "enjoying the day" type humour will be considered "off topic"....even if along with the "off topic" humour I post the fix to the problem. And the aggravating thing is the number of Pm's I recieve where people are dying laughing because of the humourous interjections.
Well, I have always been a fan of "turning the page".
My apologies to all of you sensitive community folks.
JP

You didn't offend me. You'll have to try a lot harder before you offend me.
Bye.

You shouldn't leave the forum just because you offended a few people. You only got banned for 5 days, that's not that bad.
I got an entire college and a fortune 500 company banned from a bonsai forum forever. To this day I can't log on there from school or work. Live and learn i guess.
You passed the 4500 mark without getting banned. I don't think I made it past 10 at the bonsai place. 20 is a record for me. I'm planning on getting banned any minute now.
Just stick around, no one wants to see you leave.

d00d, I've been banned and it was helluva lot more serious than what you got banned for
I came back, you'll be back...but have fun on vacation, everyone needs a break. I, for one enjoyed your educational, respectful posts.
Look, even a junior member is sticking up for you! How cute! j/j

JP, I recall seeing some of your posts in Mike's serious thread. Never saw the dreaded pink text though. They were a little off-topic and off-the-wall, but nothing offensive, IMO.
Sure, we have some sensitive folks in Community - in a way, I'm probably one of them, as I'm always careful not to offend others if I can at all help it. Just like you are, JP, IMO.
But there are some folks who can be offended by the most seemingly inoccous things. Just read shawshank's thread about the GSA cards for a good debate on this issue.
Mods have a hard job pleasing everyone. I don't envy them at all. And often it's complaints of others they act on rather than on their own.
Hope you don't stop being a bit of a larrikin around here, JP. A little bit of light hearted banter is always welcome, IMO, even in serious threads. If we can't laugh at ourselves and see the funny side of life, we've missed the plot, IMO.
I haven't been banned yet, but have had the dreaded pink (and other colours) text in my posts before.
Cheers
Mick

JP, I'd hate to see you stop posting. Granted, sometimes you get a bit long-winded, which IMO is ok - if one finds it interesting great, otherwise they don't have to read it all...
Maybe I missed it, but I've yet to see you post something offensive. I'd bet it was an isolated incident anyway - or a misunderstanding. Really sounds like an issue caused largely by the caching. Face it, most of us eventually offend or irritate someone. I certainly have, so have many regulars & long-timers.
If you feel the need to refrain or slow up for a while, fine. But don't stop.

Yeah. Without you to post which other religious fanatic could i argue with? .
Only pullin ya leg! Nah, we've had our disagreements but everyone does. I'm sure everyone gets into trouble with the mods too.
They are human, they make mistakes. But they also take sides, it's natural for a human to do it and they probably don't even know that they are doing it. Alas, you can't say that to them, cos what proof do you have? .
Later,
Adam.

Did you make the best of the time and play a game of backgammon with Shahani in the isolation ward? |

Eh, do what you gotta do. But I would suggest you don't leave unless you truly want to.
