Saddam Trial: Embarrasing to US?

There seems to be a view, should Saddam Hussein stand trial for war crimes, the US may be fingered as a co-conspirator for supplying the arms, etc.

I am curious to see what happens if Saddam starts to sing like a canary during all of these interrogations, hearings, trial, etc.

Do we use his words to corroborate our 'intel' and justfy our actions?

Do we dismiss everything he says as lies, regardless of the content?

I think that we are in for a long battle between "See, he admits to ............" and "You can't believe anything that monster says."

Despite the risk of martyrdom, the administration may have preferred that he went out in a 'blaze of glory' like his sons.

Right now, Iran want Saddam Hussein to be put on trial for war crimes committed during the Iran-Iraq War in the 80's. The thinking is that Iran wants Saddam Hussein to testify about the US supplying Iraq with the arms and chemical weapons to kill Iranians.

If the US didn't want Saddam to stand trial he would be dead.

Who cares if Saddam says the US gave him chemical weapons? We KNOW that already. It's not like it's some shocking news breakthrough or something.

The US government has always denied giving Saddam weapons.
